Activity Leader - Summer Camp

Working Hours: 08:30 - 17:30

Compensation: £559.17 weekly salary based on age, experience, and qualifications.

Reporting Structure: Directly to Camp Senior Team, Area Manager, and Central Office.

Barracudas is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of children and young individuals, and we expect all staff to uphold this commitment.

Activity Leader roles are structured around a minimum of 4 days per week, with a designated day off confirmed weekly. Although the contract specifies a minimum of 4 days, full 5-day work may be necessary based on participant numbers and staffing needs, which will be communicated in advance.

Notifications regarding your schedule will be provided at the end of each week, and the assigned day off may vary. Any requests for specific days off must be approved prior to the camp's commencement.

For Easter and May half-term, contracts will be structured around 3-day weeks, considering bank holidays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in establishing and maintaining an inviting and organized base room for children.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures to ensure a fun and safe environment for all participants.
  • Implement the daily activity schedule to deliver a diverse range of sessions.
  • Collaborate with the broader staff team to facilitate activities.
  • Provide active supervision and support to meet the needs of children during all activities, including breaks and meals.
  • Utilize available resources to plan and conduct engaging activities tailored to the age group.
  • Encourage full participation from all children in the group.
  • Foster individual relationships with children to understand their interests and incorporate them into daily activities.
  • Take responsibility for the overall welfare and safeguarding of children.
  • Ensure the safe handling and storage of equipment used during sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience or qualifications in working with children.
  • Must be 18 years or older at the start of the contract.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Provision of satisfactory professional or academic references.
  • Enthusiastic, caring, and organized with excellent communication skills and initiative.
  • Able to adapt to and manage unpredictable challenges in a childcare environment.
  • Obtain an enhanced DBS check through Barracudas or possess an existing enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
  • Attend a Virtual Assessment Event if new to Barracudas.
  • Complete annual Online Training.
  • Participate in an Induction Training Day prior to the first working season.
  • Assist with end-of-camp pack-up duties.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations by following guidelines and demonstrating a proactive approach.
  • Organize and deliver activities appropriate for the children in your care, within your qualifications and expertise.
  • Encourage children to engage in new activities as per the activity schedule.
  • Maintain awareness of children's safety and whereabouts, promoting respectful communication about behavior expectations.
  • Follow all camp procedures, including registration and safety protocols, while supporting colleagues in adherence.
  • Serve as a positive role model by promoting healthy lifestyles and hygiene practices.
  • Report any Child Protection concerns to the Senior Team or designated personnel.
  • Make reasonable adjustments to accommodate children with additional needs or medical conditions.
  • Depending on staff availability, assist with Skills Builder sessions and swimming activities as required.
  • This list is not exhaustive, and you may be expected to perform various tasks as needed to meet the organization's objectives.
