About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our team at Pen Underwriting. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for evaluating new business opportunities, providing expert underwriting advice, and developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and brokers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and grow a portfolio of renewal accounts, handling rating and adjustment enquiries from clients.
  • Develop new business opportunities and expand your client portfolio.
  • Handle technical claim cover requests and provide expert advice to clients and brokers.
  • Liaise with brokers, insurers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and service delivery.
  • Sign off referrals from underwriters and assistant underwriters, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Provide technical training and development to junior team members, sharing your expertise and knowledge.
  • Compile and analyze statistics, interpreting data and presenting findings to stakeholders.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Pen Underwriting's products and services, ensuring you can provide expert advice to clients.
  • Operate within the confines of your delegated underwriting authority, utilizing the company's preferred insurance pool.
Requirements
  • CII/Dip CII qualification or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of risk exposure and ability to determine acceptance criteria and risk classifications in complex situations.
  • Underwriting experience in servicing accounts, with a focus on technical knowledge and claim handling.
  • Ability to extract and piece together learning from various sources, applying this knowledge to underwriting decisions.
  • Experience in planning and prioritizing client renewals and seeking new business opportunities.
  • Strong communication and social skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills, with attention to detail and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Initiative and a 'can-do' attitude, with a willingness to take ownership and accountability.
  • Strong trading and negotiation skills, ensuring excellent outcomes for clients, brokers, and insurers.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
