Position Overview

Senior Clinical Fellow with a focus on Obstetric Imaging

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department is seeking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, providing an opportunity to enhance skills and expertise in obstetric imaging. The ideal candidate will have the capability to undertake the Fetal Care SITM. This role is available for an initial period of 12 months, with potential for extension. It is tailored for candidates who have completed their CCT.

Applicants should possess a minimum of 4 years' experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology post-MRCOG or an equivalent qualification. Proficiency in obstetric imaging is essential for this position.

Croydon University Hospital serves a diverse community. The O&G department manages a substantial obstetrics and gynaecology caseload, offering extensive elective and emergency surgical experience. The patient population presents with a variety of obstetric challenges that are both demanding and fulfilling.

Training in surgical procedures will be provided in both obstetrics and gynaecology.

The department comprises 18 WTE Consultants and an Associate Specialist, alongside 9 Specialist Registrars/StR3+. There are 10 Senior House Officers, including a mix of Specialty trainees, GP trainees, and Foundation doctors.

Main Responsibilities

General Duties

Under the supervision of Consultants, the responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing and providing daily care on antenatal and gynaecology wards.
  • Participating in antenatal and gynaecology clinics alongside the Consultant.
  • Conducting ward rounds and covering the Labour Ward.
  • Attending gynaecological surgical lists in the Main Theatre Suite and the Day Care Unit.
  • Participating in Fetal medicine and preterm clinics.

Teaching and Training Responsibilities

The Registrar will engage in the education of junior staff, nurses, and medical students. Additionally, the Registrar will assist in organizing departmental meetings and presenting clinical cases. Research facilities are available for interested candidates.

  • MBBS or equivalent, MRCOG

Skills/Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to manage the Labour Ward, including performing CS, instrumental deliveries, perineal repairs, interpreting CTG, and addressing obstetric emergencies.
  • Experience with gynaecological emergencies, including managing ectopic pregnancies, miscarriages, and acute abdominal conditions.

Desirable

  • Laparoscopic management of ectopic pregnancies.
  • Gynaecological scanning skills.

Experience

Essential

  • Prior experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
  • More than 4 years as a registrar.
