Position Overview

Consultant in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine

We are seeking two dedicated and skilled consultants to enhance our team, aiming to provide outstanding healthcare services to our community.

These are permanent consultant roles, primarily based at our facility, with responsibilities extending into the community to assist in managing elderly patients in their home environments.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will oversee and mentor junior and middle-grade medical personnel. They will receive support to engage in formal training for educational supervision.

The consultants will strengthen existing collaborations with primary and community healthcare services, ensuring that elderly patients' risk factors are identified and that they are directed to appropriate services that promote their independence and minimize the likelihood of crises.

This role may involve coordinating specialist multidisciplinary meetings, integrating primary and community care services to ensure patients have comprehensive care plans that enable them to maintain their health at home for as long as possible.

Job Responsibilities

The Trust is dedicated to safeguarding the welfare of children, young individuals, and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff and volunteers to uphold this commitment by adhering to Trust policies and procedures, responding promptly to concerns, communicating effectively, and sharing information appropriately.

Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check, with associated costs deducted from the initial salary.

Additionally, joining the DBS update service and paying the annual subscription fee will be a condition of employment.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Full registration with the GMC
  • Relevant CCT or expected entry on the specialist register within six months or an application for entry
  • MRCP qualification

Essential Training

  • 4-5 years of training at ST3+ level in General Internal Medicine and Rheumatology
  • Comprehensive training across all relevant medical disciplines
  • Significant experience and interest in Rheumatology

Desirable Experience

  • Interest in collaborating with Emergency Medicine to manage patients with acute medical issues during admissions

Essential Experience

  • Conducting independent ward rounds for acutely ill patients
  • Comprehensive management of patient care
  • Proven experience in the clinical management of rheumatology patients

Desirable Management Experience

  • Experience in quality improvement initiatives related to rheumatology services

Essential Management Skills

  • Understanding of the managerial responsibilities of a consultant within the NHS
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize workload

Desirable Management Skills

  • Experience in developing protocols/pathways and influencing management changes
