Job Overview

McGregor Boyall is seeking an experienced Software Engineer/Lead to join our London-headed engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in designing and building solutions for our next-generation Loan Trading Application.

Working on our existing JVM cloud-based architecture, you will build a new solution in Clojure and other JVM languages, including Java, where appropriate. You will apply best-in-class test-driven agile and Extreme programming techniques to deliver complex software projects using an incremental and evolutionary approach.

You will be an advocate of extreme programming with rich experience using those practices to deliver software projects. You will champion the adoption of extreme programming practices and teach the team to deliver using agile methods. This is an individual contribution role, but the ability to steer technical decisions and mentor is also critical to the success of this opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply quality practices such as test-driven development to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Drive a pragmatic mindset to deliver quicker time to market and early user feedback.
  • Promote clean code principles to enable sustainable production solutions.
  • Perform code review, pairing sessions, and share knowledge with the team.
  • Support the existing collaborative and trusting environment.

Requirements:

  • Commercial Clojure experience.
  • Server-side JVM components with broad and deep experience in Java software programming.
  • An advocate of XP principles: test-driven development, pair/mob programming, iterative development.
  • Continuous delivery of working software.
  • Technical leadership skills.
  • Experience working with users and stakeholders at an investment bank.
  • Pair programming.
  • Start-up or fintech background coupled with financial services or banking experience.
  • Computer science degree.
