Food Commercial - Promotional Category Strategist C4

Staying ahead of the curve is the goal of our Category Planning team. In the dynamic world of beverages, quick decision-making and the ability to identify opportunities are crucial. As part of a diverse team of strategic thinkers and problem solvers, you will be dedicated to enhancing the experience of Sainsbury's customers.

In the role of Promotional Category Strategist for Beers, Wines, and Spirits, you will collaborate closely with the Senior Promotional Category Planner to execute the overarching value proposition for this category. Your responsibilities will involve engaging with various stakeholders, including Buyers, Marketing, and Commercial Operations teams, as well as our supply chain partners. Through meticulous analysis and attention to detail, you will play a pivotal role in aligning our promotional strategies with corporate objectives, optimizing promotional spaces to showcase value and innovation, and driving channel activations for the Beers, Wines & Spirits category.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and ensure the timely execution of promotional timelines, fostering cross-functional collaboration to promote best practices and achieve first-time success.
  • Facilitate the implementation and communication of the retail execution of our promotional initiatives, seasonal events, and other in-store activations.
  • Take charge of the promotional strategy for Convenience, Online, and Regional stores within the Beers, Wines & Spirits category, ensuring optimal representation and maximizing seasonal opportunities.
  • Develop an optimized promotional space plan for secondary spaces dedicated to Beers, Wines & Spirits.
  • Leverage data and insights to shape promotional strategies and support performance reviews of promotional spaces to drive enhancements.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the promotional strategy for Beers, Wines & Spirits, enriching our insights and knowledge base.

  • A solid grasp of retail dynamics, customer insights, and promotional knowledge is advantageous.
  • An organized individual who excels in planning, prioritizing, and coordinating tasks.
  • Strong project management capabilities, including independent thinking, goal setting, and a results-oriented approach. Ability to manage timelines and dependencies effectively.
  • Proficient analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data into actionable insights, solve problems, and present recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to cultivate strong working relationships across Sainsbury's and with suppliers.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a focus on making decisions that benefit the customer while providing support and constructive challenge.
  • Initiative and drive to identify solutions and enhance processes.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with trading categories is desirable.
