Senior Research Engineer

The Manufacturing Technology Centre is seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Engineer to lead the development of project-related activities across various technology departments and industrial sectors.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead project technical deliverables, ensuring work meets or exceeds agreed customer requirements, and is delivered within agreed budgets and timescales.
- Undertake innovative engineering research work focused on technology/manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MRL) 3+, and demonstrate industrial project delivery.
- Support Senior Managers in identifying, specifying, and delivering new and novel technology capability into the MTC, customers, or industrial member's premises.
- Take overall ownership of project delivery, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, technical support of commissioning, management of project budget and deliverables.
- Generate key project and strategic initiatives in alignment with theme's strategy, actively supporting to develop the theme business and technology strategy in a specific area of expertise.
Person Specification:
- Demonstrable substantial and recognised expertise in a specific area relevant to the theme, with expert knowledge of the manufacturing sector and deep understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies.
- Committed to work collaboratively and network effectively, able to recognise the contribution of others and teamwork with a one MTC mind-set.
- Pragmatic hands-on experience, providing problem-solving approach and willing to physically participate in completion of work when required.
- Self-motivated and a self-starter, with the ability to work autonomously to meet deadlines, budgets and quality expectations, both within a team, or independently.
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
- Strong knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of various technologies and how different technologies may be more appropriate to specific inspection applications.
- Degree calibre engineer, technologist, scientist or mathematician, ideally working towards professional registration; Chartered professional qualification is desirable.
- The ability to apply this knowledge to lead validation trials to prove a system's capability for an application.
- Provide strong technical leadership and support project teams in the delivery of work.
- Strong knowledge of the manufacturing sector and understanding of manufacturing systems and technologies.
- Experience working in R&D or project-based environments.
- Demonstration of experience in providing technical leadership, knowledge transfer and strategic direction.
