Position Overview

In a rapidly evolving industry, our forward-thinking approach is essential for addressing future challenges.

We are seeking a Buyer to contribute to the Overhead Line (OHL) segment of our Power Transmission & Distribution Business Unit. This role is pivotal in executing intricate projects that significantly impact our operations and the broader community.

Our team is engaged in an extensive project portfolio aimed at transforming the energy landscape in Scotland, with a commitment to enhancing the UK's energy security and achieving net zero targets.

Occasional travel to various Overhead Line projects across Scotland will be part of this role.

Key Responsibilities

As a Buyer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Updating and managing Procurement Strategies for Overhead Line projects within the Scotland Power T&D business framework.
  • Creating, updating, and overseeing Procurement Schedules for the Scotland Overhead Line operations on a daily basis.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of essential materials to project sites.
  • Preparing requests for proposals and quotations.
  • Identifying and managing key supply chain risks.
  • Conducting supplier evaluations for specific procurement initiatives.
  • Leading negotiations to shortlist suppliers for designated procurement projects.
  • Facilitating and/or supporting final negotiations with selected suppliers.
  • Preparing purchase orders in line with procurement governance standards as necessary.
  • Monitoring the supply market to discover potential new suppliers and products, and engaging with suppliers to gain insights into their offerings.
  • Striving to exceed service expectations by providing a responsive, value-driven service, grounded in a thorough understanding of customer needs, technical expertise, and operational efficiency.
  • Establishing performance-oriented supplier relationships that prioritize value for money, service quality, and continuous improvement to enhance competitive advantage.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Prior experience in procurement processes within a utilities-related environment, including collaboration with materials suppliers and subcontractors.
  • A demonstrated history of successful negotiation and adherence to processes.
  • Strong analytical abilities, commercial insight, and a balanced approach to decision-making to ensure optimal procurement outcomes.
  • A pragmatic yet disciplined approach to process compliance is essential.
  • MCIPS certification or a willingness to pursue MCIPS is a plus.
