**About us**:
Biosciences is one of the world’s foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences and one of the largest Divisions within UCL, undertaking a significant amount of research and teaching. The Division has a diverse portfolio addressing all areas of biology from protein interactions to cell function, organism development, genetics, population studies and the environment. Computational modelling approaches are frequently used alongside experimental research programmes and much of our research crosses traditional boundaries, including the relationship of biodiversity to the health of the planet. Activity is underpinned by high calibre science technology platforms and state of the art equipment. Educational activity includes a range of undergraduate programmes, an expanding number of Masters Programmes and a substantial number of postgraduate research students.
The post is funded for 2 years in the first instance. There is the possibility for a further extension of another 3 years as part of the extension of the grant, conditional on satisfactory outputs from the first 2 years.
**About the role**:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative and motivated individual with a keen interest in cancer genomics, clonal evolution and the tumour microenvironment, to explore the mutational processes driving cellular plasticity and tumour progression in a variety of cancers.
The role will involve the development of new statistical and bioinformatics approaches to model and link mutational signatures, clonal evolution and tumour microenvironment interactions, and thus a strong quantitative background is highly desirable. Rich multi-omics datasets are available in oesophageal adenocarcinoma, sarcoma and brain cancers from collaborators at the Universities of Cambridge, Southampton, Cologne and the UCL Cancer Institute for this purpose.
This position is fully computational, but we will collaborate with our wet lab partners for the purpose of validation of the findings.
**About you**:
Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (Salary £34,502- £36,348 per annum, including London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections).
