Following appropriate training and with the indirect supervision of a registered nurse, participate in the patients pathway through the outpatient department.1.2 Act as the patients advocate ensuring that their best interests are met.1.3 Using the competency framework, carry out basic nursing care of the patient and their daily activities and promote patient safety, comfort, privacy, dignity and confidentiality, reporting any change in condition to the nurse in charge.1.4 Consider and effectively deploy available resources to achieve safe care.1.5 Always act with regard for the privacy and dignity of the patient. Cooperate with and participate in research and clinical audit undertaken in the clinical area in order to carry forward the development of research based practice.1.6 Participate in the support and implementation of Essence of Care guidelines.1,7 Use initiative in planning daily and weekly routines.1.8 Carry out the role without the need for constant supervision and direction recognising limitations and seeking supervision when necessary.1.9 Comply with all Trust policies with particular regard to the policies andprocedures carried out in the event of maintaining staff and patient safety.1.10 Report all accidents and untoward incidents to the nurse in charge of the area andcomplete an incident form in accordance with Trust policy.1.11 Report problems with equipment and facilities to the nurse in charge1.12 Be prepared to attend and undertake any necessary training, being aware of theneed to develop oneself and to strive to increase personal knowledge.2. Communication2.1 Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to promote efficient patient care.2.2 Maintain accurate patient records.2.3 Communicate with and provide support for patients relatives, carers and visitors.2.4 Be aware of the need for confidentiality both within the written and spoken word and ensure correct storage of patients records at all times.2.5 Liaise with other clinical areas as necessary for the coordination of patient care and the smooth running of the ward/unit/department.2.6 Recognise the importance of personal contribution to morale.3. Managerial3.1 Support a culture of teamwork within the clinical area.3.2 Collaborate with all members of the clinical area to ensure efficient running of the ward/unit/department.3.3 Use resources effectively in order to provide quality patient care whist having an awareness of budgetary issues.3.4 Supervise and support new staff.3.5 Take all reasonable steps to ensure the safe keeping of patients property in accordance with Trust policy.3.6 Welcome visitors and patients to the clinical area providing assistance, support and information where required.3.7 Promote a professional, welcoming and uncluttered environment, keeping all areas safe, clean and tidy.4.

General4.1 Be aware of need for own personal development.4.2 Contribute to making the clinical environment conductive to learning and development where individuals feel able to discuss ideas and action as well as showing initiative.4.3 Participate in educational programmes.
