An Exciting opportunity has arisen to join the nursing team on SDEC

( Same Day Emergency Care ) at the City hospital campus.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring, compassionate and highly motivated Clinical Support Worker to join our excellent team.

Oncology patients can be assessed, diagnosed and be treated without being admitted to a ward and if clinically safe to do so, will go home the same day when their care is provided to avoid admission to Specialist Receiving unit (SRU).

SDEC is under Cancer Associated Specialities (CAS) based at City Campus.

SDEC currently specialises in the care of Oncology patients in a day care/ outpatient setting.

The unit also provides a nurse-led service for Renal and Haematology patients.

Nurse-led service for Renal patients involves administration of infusions. The units also provides blood transfusion for Haematology patients.

Work as a member of the team providing a high standard of care to patients and their carers.

Deliver high quality holistic care to patients with the indirect supervision of a registered nurse.

Deliver efficient and effective care and communication between the multidisciplinary team, the patient, relatives and carers.

Following appropriate training, undertake venepuncture, cannulation, venesection, PICC line care and ECG recording.

Participate in the effective running of the outpatient department, ensuring patients are seen and treated in a timely manner.

Following appropriate training and with the indirect supervision of a registered nurse, participate in the treatment of patients.

Be able to undertake full nursing observations accurately, and recognise the deteriorating patient

Act as the patient’s advocate ensuring that their best interests are met.

Using the competency framework, carry out basic nursing care of the patient and their daily activities and promote patient safety, comfort, privacy, dignity and confidentiality, reporting any change in condition to the nurse in charge.

Consider and effectively deploy available resources to achieve safe care.

Always act with regard for the privacy and dignity of the patient. Cooperate with and participate in research and clinical audit undertaken in the clinical area in order to carry forward the development of research based practice.

Use initiative in planning daily and weekly routines.

Carry out the role without the need for constant supervision and direction recognising limitations and seeking supervision when necessary.

Comply with all Trust policies with particular regard to the policies and procedures carried out in the event of maintaining staff and patient safety.

Report all accidents and untoward incidents to the nurse in charge of the area complete an incident form in accordance with Trust policy.

Report problems with equipment and facilities to the nurse in charge Be prepared to attend and undertake any necessary training, being aware of to develop oneself and to strive to increase personal knowledge.

Communication

Communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to promote efficient patient care.

Maintain accurate patient records.

Communicate with and provide support for patients’ relatives, carers and visitors.

Be aware of the need for confidentiality both within the written and spoken word and ensure correct storage of patients’ records at all times.

Liaise with other clinical areas as necessary for the coordination of patient care and the smooth running of the ward/unit/department.

Recognise the importance of personal contribution to morale.

Managerial

Support a culture of teamwork within the clinical area.

Collaborate with all members of the clinical area to ensure efficient running of the ward/unit/department.

Use resources effectively in order to provide quality patient care whist having an awareness of budgetary issues.

Supervise and support new non-registered staff.

General

Be aware of need for own personal development.

Contribute to making the clinical environment conductive to learning and development where individuals feel able to discuss ideas and action as well as showing initiative.

Participate in educational programmes.
