**The Primary Purpose**:

- To provide a person-centred service to people of all ages affected by sight loss, offering information, practical advice, emotional support, while empowering people to access appropriate statutory and community support services.
- As part of the role, you will be required to hold RNIB’s & City

University’s qualification in ‘Eye Clinic Support Studies’ or be prepared to undertake and obtain the qualification.

**Main Tasks**:

- Provide advice, information, practical and emotional support, to people affected by sight loss, including their families and carers while adhering to the RNIB ECLO Services Quality Framework and

Practice Guidelines.
- Signpost and refer clients to a wide range of services and organisations to meet their needs.
- Develop positive working relationships with and establish and maintain referral routes/mechanisms to and from: health care professionals, statutory bodies, local and national service providers and Vision Support Barrow & District services to facilitate a needs led, person centred approach to service provision.
- Provide basic visual awareness training to eye clinic staff and others as required.
- Act as a key information and advisory link in the certification and registration process for blind and partially sighted people and eye clinic staff.
- Attend clinical audit meetings / steering groups / forums, and other events to promote the benefits of the service to eye clinic and healthcare staff and social care professionals, along with training events.
- Collate and maintain accurate client records and to input quality data using common data collection tools and databases. To ensure

and maintain confidentiality of all people who access the service and patient records in line with appropriate data protection legislation.
- Ensure that specific safeguarding risks and regulatory requirements are understood, applied, and managed in line with NHS/Health

Board and Vision Support Barrow & District Safeguarding policies.
- Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive information resource relating to services available for people with sight loss.
- Adhere to all Vision Support Barrow & District policies and procedures.
- Training associated with working for Vision Support Barrow &
District must be completed within 3 months.

- To actively participate in the organisation’s performance management processes including appraisal, supervisions, and induction process.

**Person Specification**

**Post**:Eye Clinic Liaison Officer

**Essential, Experience**:

- Qualification in Rehabilitation / Nursing / Optometry or other Health

& Social Care qualification or proven experience in delivering support services at a similar level.
- RNIB & City University ‘Eye Clinic Support Studies’ **or be willing**

**to undertake and gain the qualification.**
- Understanding of the need to involve service users and carers in assessing needs, accessing services and service development.
- Experience of disability and/or working with people directly affected by sight loss and their families.
- Ability to communicate with medical and other hospital staff in a professional manner and to develop and maintain appropriate positive relationships with eye clinic staff, people accessing the service and outside agencies, and represent RNIB at a corporate and service level

**Desirable**:

- Experience of dealing with health professionals/Local Authority services
- Experience of forging links and partnerships with local charities and organisations
