Milestone Infrastructure Ltd is currently looking to recruit a Bridge Maintenance Operative to work on our Wiltshire TMC contract in Melksham, reporting into a Supervisor.

As a Bridge Maintenance Operative you will be part of our Operational Team who are responsible for maintenance of all highway structures across Wiltshire.

Provision of suitably qualified and experienced highway operative with the ability to work independently to undertake general maintenance work to the Council’s ‘structures’ assets.

**KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES**:

- Vegetation clearance and management around structures and watercourse use hand tools and power tools
- Clearance of trees including the use of a chainsaw
- Sanding and painting of barriers and parapets
- Small masonry type works such as repairs / replacement of brickwork and masonry stone
- Repairs and replacement of parapets, fencing and railings, both metal and wood
- Repairs to wooden footbridges
- Erection of small signs including posts in the footways, carriageways and verges
- General highway maintenance repairs
- to work with the “bridge gang” as required
- To work safely and be responsible for personal safety and that of others who come into the work area
- To carry out all required checks of plant, equipment and vehicles including completion of associated reports.
- To identify and where possible, repair minor defects.
- To accurately complete daily record sheets and submit them at the end of each day.
- Accurate recording of information in HIAMS via use of tablet device
- To respond to out of office hours emergencies and winter maintenance duties in accordance with roster and within required timescales - note this benefits from additional standby and call out pay
- To undergo all necessary training to ensure you are competent to undertake the tasks assigned to you.
- To follow company procedures at all times.
- To actively foster a positive employee morale.
- To willingly carry out any reasonable task as requested by a member of management.

**MEASURES OF SUCCESS**:

- Feedback from Divisional Highways Office, Parish and Town Councils.
- Works completed to programme.
- RIDDOR, LTIFR and service strike reduction targets achieved.
- Continual improvement in performance indicators.
- Satisfactory outcome from quality, safety and environmental audits.
- Successfully complete training courses.

- This job can be physically demanding and will involve lifting and carrying.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION (Essential)**

It is essential that the person meets the following criteria:

- Competent to use both computers and Tablets.
- Flexible in terms of hours worked, attitude and tasks undertaken.
- Holds a current driving license, and capable of gaining LGV license.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION (Desirable)**

It is desirable that the person either meets the following criteria or is capable of achieving them within a given timescale:

- Conversant with Microsoft Programs
- Holds the appropriate Street Works qualifications desired not essential as training will be provided
- Holds or working towards NVQ level 2.
- Competent and trained to operate powered hand tools such as disc cutters, chainsaws, plate compactors, strimmer’s and hedge cutters.
