The Independent Senior Advocate role (ISA) has been introduced as a result of the Donna Ockenden Report on Maternity Services. A key recommendation is, to ensure that women and birthing peoples voices are heard within the maternity and neonatal care providers. Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System are proud to announce this exciting job opportunity, working collaboratively with women and families who may have experienced unexpected or adverse outcomes during their pregnancy journey.

The ISA role involves working with Trust providers (Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital and United Hospitals Birmingham) and wider partners to develop referral pathways, requiring the skills and capabilities to influence change. This person will be an experienced professional, with skills in listening and counselling, have extensive knowledge in advocacy, and be confident to manage diverse and changing caseloads, sometimes at short notice and be flexible.

We are looking for a passionate individual who will be a trusted intermediary link between women and their families, clinicians, and the midwifery & neonatal services, aiming to break down barriers, providing opportunities to being listened to and be heard.
