West Midlands Anti-Slavery Network (WMASN) (Registered Charity No connects the various agencies involved in tackling modern slavery in the West Midlands and beyond.
We aim to develop an effective regional multi agency anti-slavery network to raise awareness, reduce the threat and harm of slavery, and rescue and support survivors of slavery in the West Midlands geographical area.
Developing strategic partnerships and collaborations with other regional, national, and international organisations to tackle modern slavery, including networks, partnerships, agencies, and learning establishments, is key to the Network achieving its aim.
WMASN has been commissioned to provide an Independent Modern Slavery Advocate (IMSA) capability to work alongside West Midlands Police and associated statutory and non-statutory partners in improving the identification of, and the response to, adult victims of slavery and human trafficking. This post is currently funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands.
Role Purpose:
The post holder will be responsible for developing a new and innovative role in seeking to improve outcomes for adult victims/survivors of slavery and human trafficking.
The post holder will develop a referral pathway to their service: will raise awareness and deliver training; will provide tactical advice and support to West Midlands police; will support and advise partners; and be a facilitator for multi-agency collaborative working, reporting back to the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner on a quarterly basis.
Essential role requirements
- Knowledge of the impact of modern slavery and human trafficking on an individual
- An understanding of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy in tackling gender based violence and abuse
- Experience working within a safeguarding role within Local Authority, law enforcement, education, or an NGO
Desirable role requirements
- Experience of adult safeguarding would be advantageous.
