Working alongside and reporting directly to the Human Resources Director, the HR Officer will be responsible for the HR function and the delivery of core HR activities in a busy manufacturing organisation.
You will have a broad generalist remit working in all areas of HR and Payroll but will be specifically responsible for processing an automated/computerised weekly payroll of around 100 people.
They will act as the first point of contact for HR-related queries from employees and on matters relating to organisational development processes and employee relation issues. This will be coupled with the requirement to produce and develop monthly reports and review and maintain HR policies.
Your main administrative duties include maintaining personnel records, managing HR documents (e.g. employment records and onboarding), recruitment and selection, shortlisting and interviewing, fair employment monitoring and dealing with recruitment agencies in filling roles. It will include working on HR related improvement projects across the group of companies e.g. attending job fairs, increasing employee engagement or reducing employee turnover.
The successful applicant will have experience of reviewing and implementing employment policies and providing advice on disciplinary and absence matters. Sound working knowledge of employment law and good practice is essential as are strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
THE PERSON
- A HR or closely related Degree
- The ability to take responsibility and work without the need for supervision
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
- Willing to learn payroll processing, previous exposure to processing a payroll desirable but not essential
CIPD level 5 membership is desirable but not essential.

7. Holiday planning on the system - contact Advanced Systems when required
8. Absence management - collection of absence, following policies, administration on letters, support management with meetings and advice
9. Vehicle management - process tax/mot follow up with users of company vehicles
10. HR/Personnel filing - responsible to ensure all information is correct within each employee’s file.
11. Appraisals - share info on completion of appraisals
12. Update policies, share information on updates to all employees
13. Specsavers - provide uniform/safety glasses voucher to employees
14. End of month reporting for accidents - work with Lockton to report all accidents, ensure internal investigations are complete and all CCTV/Documentation is completed correctly, paperwork is filed, share with insurance all info. This may include driver/vehicle accidents. QBE form/Riddor.
15. Collect timesheets from salaried staff each week and provide to finance manager
16. Set up all new employees on TMS/Create HR file/Facial Recognition reader
17. Support with any briefs to employees both administrative and face to face with any updates e.g. driver pay rise changes
18. Employee relations - appeals, disciplinaries hearings, grievance hearings, both advising and taking part - up to and including dismissal. Lateness, conduct, gross misconduct.
19. Complete clocking in and out anomalies daily

21. Alcohol and drugs training - understanding process and procedure

23. Met Life Assurance info - collected yearly
24. Support with Fencing as and when required
25. Apprenticeship programme support - recruitment
30 days Hol starting increasing to 31 after 1 year, 32 after 3 years, 33 after 5 years ( majority flexible hols to book when you wish)
