Full time starting salary is normally in the range £23,373 to £24.947.

From 1 November 2023 the salary range will increase to £25,866 to £27,518, with potential progression once in post to £30,820

**Job context**

The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of eight Institutes in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences. The Institute co-ordinates teaching and student engagement activity, equips students with the skills to deliver outstanding healthcare, and carries out life-changing medical research. This is informed by pedagogy and by research in the fields of Biomedical Sciences, Dentistry, Medical Education, Nursing and Pharmacy. It has a major role in the delivery of teaching a large undergraduate student base and a significant volume of postgraduate research and taught activity.

The Institute of Clinical Sciences is organised into five interdependent departments: Birmingham Medical School and the Schools of Biomedical Sciences, Dentistry, Nursing & Midwifery and Pharmacy, each of which is led by a Head of School who reports to the Institute Director.

This job is part of a team of administrative staff within the Institute of Clinical Sciences. Primarily based in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, the postholder will also provide support to the Schools of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy and the Institute administration team as required.

**Job summary**

To provide proactive administrative support in the relevant department, working as part of a team or on own initiative. You will have the ability to manage your work without needing to refer to others for most of your time. In order to flexibly use resource you may be given the opportunity to work in different areas of the department or wider University.

Administrators may work in any area of the University; with large groupings in HR, Finance, and School/College Hubs.

You will be able to develop a wide range of skills, both technical and administrative, and may also have the opportunity to lead on specific tasks within a team.

The postholder will report to the Institute Operations Manager.

**Main duties**
- You will act as a point of contact to provide accurate and timely information and advice to internal and external customers and stakeholders on University processes and procedures, answering queries promptly, providing guidance and resolving queries from initial contact to resolution. This will include recognising when queries need to be referred elsewhere.
- Regularly communicate relevant information to students, staff and external contacts.
- Provide administrative support for diary or event planning.
