This is a really exciting time to join the MMO as we become an independent coastal state, embedding new repatriated functions and services with an increased focus on the protection and enhancing of the marine environment.

The role of Operations Trainer is an important position that is part of the Operations Training Team. You will be responsible for technical training delivery including the development of training material and courses to ensure staff within the Operations Directorate are appropriately skilled and equipped to perform their roles to a high standard. You will also be responsible for undertaking competency based assessment and Quality Assurance within the MMO’s Operations Directorate.

You will also be required to deliver training to external agencies and devolved administrations when needed, and provide mentoring support to new members of staff.

With the introduction of new regulations and ways of working you will adapt training provision to ensure that staff are kept up to date and that training materials reflect changes as and when these occur. This will include changes after the introduction of new systems and where existing systems are updated.

You will work with Subject Matter Experts to ensure that training is delivered to a high standard and content is appropriate and engaging

Innovation is fundamental to delivering a modern training programme and you will utilise new approaches to training including interactive and web-based training as well as delivering face to face training.

**Duties will include**:
Creating and maintaining training material within the MMO’s bespoke Learning Management System (LMS)

Ensuring technical training material is aligned with requirements identified in the Operations Training Team’s Training Matrix

Working with other teams to identify their training needs

Developing high quality innovative training content to explain often complex regulatory material

Delivering training in multiple formats to operational staff and external organisations as required and to a high standard

Ensuring that training delivery is aligned with training requirements and that Operations staff receive all of the training they need to perform their roles. This will involve working with Team Leaders to find out what the training needs of their teams are.

Mentoring new entrant enforcement officers through their training, development and assessment

Supporting the MMO’s Marine Enforcement Officer Accredited Qualification process through the provision of technical training and assessment

**Duties may also include (voluntary)**:
Supporting the MMO’s operational delivery at sea by becoming an endorsed boarding officer and delivering training on offshore assets

**Essential**
- Excellent communication skills - An ability to communicate complex regulations and procedures to a variety of audiences in different formats, in particular through verbal presentation.
- Strong IT capability to quickly get up to speed with MMO databases, and to support development of online training material on the MMO’s Learning Management System and SharePoint 365 sites
- Ability to effectively manage own time and prioritise tasks
- Capability to translate complex regulations into effective and engaging training material
- Flexible working hours and ability to travel within the UK and occasionally travel abroad
- Full clean driving licence

**Desirable**
- Some knowledge of the marine environment, fisheries management and fisheries legislation
- A warranted Marine Enforcement Officer (MEO) capable of undertaking the full range of enforcement duties
- Experience of working in a teaching, training or coaching role, or working in an environment that involves training delivery
- Experience conducting vocational based assessment
- Previous experience with developing e-learning packages
- Availability to work offshore for periods of 2 weeks (infrequently)
- Situated within the South West area would be advantageous but not essential
