**_We are looking for support staff to join our team, based within the Westcliff and Leigh on sea areas. _**
**Support worker for adults with mild learning disabilities and mental health issues.**
Spotlight Health Care ltd provides supported living to adults (both male and female) with learning and mental disabilities across a number of locations in Leigh, Southend, and Rochford. we have a great opportunity for a dedicated individual to join our team as a support worker to work across all of the above locations. As we provide support 24hrs a day, the right individual must be willing to work a shift pattern or 07:00 - 14:15 (early shift) 14:00 - 20:15 (later shift) we also have the option of 20:00 - 07:00 "sleep in nights" where you will be paid a fixed fee for sleeping on site.
As you will be working with venerable people a DBS check will be required. On-the-job training will be provided as well as an opportunity to gain qualifications in adult social care.
**Support worker responsibilities**:
- Providing emotional support to individuals and their families.
- Providing practical support for individuals and their families, such as helping with household tasks (like cooking and cleaning), personal care and paperwork.
- Supporting and monitoring their healthcare needs, including administering medication.
- Supporting them to pursue hobbies and interests.
- Supporting the learning of new skills or gaining employment.
- Teaching life skills, such as budgeting and paying for things.
- Helping with everyday tasks such as meal preparation, writing a shopping list, and going shopping.
- Helping them to access community facilities and be included in community groups.
- Understanding their communication needs and adapting your communication to each individual, e.g. sounds, tones, body language.
- Working with other professionals, such as doctors and therapists, to ensure consistency of support.
- Analysing an individual’s needs and drawing up and working to a focused support plan.
- Becoming both a role model and companion to the individual and uncovering shared interests, such as hobbies and outings.
**A suitable Support Worker must have the following**:
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Good leadership skills
- Desire to help improve the lives of others
- Willingness to learn and develop your own skills
- Enjoy being active and assisting service users when they go out into the community
- Enjoy working creatively
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team
- Must be willing to do some cleaning duties in support of our clients
- It would also be desirable if you were a driver as there is a need to take the clients out on social trips and to medical appointments.
