**Job Overview**:
Ambulance staff transport sick, injured and convalescent persons and give first aid treatment in emergencies and check ambulance vehicles are roadworthy, cleaned and have all the necessary equipment.

We are seeking compassionate Ambulance Care Assistants to provide essential assistance to individuals in need. You are required to attend to the personal needs and comforts of individuals in need with care and support.This role requires the ability to work with vulnerable, frail people, with the need for medical treatment at hospitals in a caring and compassionate way Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with all relevant traffic legislation and driving with consideration for other road users. Where relevant check that patients have all the necessary requirements for their appointment or discharge, including paperwork and medication if appropriate. When collecting from home, request that the patients property is secured on leaving and that the patients have a means of entry back into the property on return. The Ambulance Care Assistant is required to undertake daily vehicle checks to ensure that the ambulance vehicle is roadworthy these checks shall include for example. Oil, Water, Fuel, Tyre Pressure and Tyre Tread condition, Lights, Warning Devices etc. any defect to be reported using Fleetcheck or RADAR and record on any computerised system as required in accordance with Polices and Procedures To use the Moving Patient equipment provided: this will include the use of all types of carrying equipment such as chairs, stretcher, lifting aids etc. This will require the post holder to risk assess the best way to undertake the moving of patients taking into consideration their needs, both medical and cultural and to follow Health and Safety and other appropriate protocols and procedures. To manoeuvre patients into ambulance vehicles using either the patients wheelchair or ambulance vehicle equipment and safely secure the patient and their equipment within the vehicle for the duration of the journey.

**Tasks required by this job include**:

- help patients into and out of ambulance
- drive ambulance or accompanies driver to transport patients to hospitals or other treatment centres and homes
- ascertain nature of injuries and provides first aid treatment
- clean and disinfect ambulance after use and carries out routine care of ambulance equipment
- replenish medical supplies in ambulance as necessary
- checks and maintain vehicles to ensure they are roadworthy

**Entry requirements of this job**:
Academic qualifications are not normally required. Entrants must normally have possessed a full clean driving licence for one to two years and have health clearance. Entrants often have a background in social care and have achieved a qualification in this area; or have nursing qualifications. Background checks including a CRB check are likely to be required.
