The University of Edinburgh has a vacancy for an Assistant Director in the Student Counselling Service. The Assistant Director will share responsibilities for the operational management of the Service, as well as maintaining a significant counselling practice. The Service is accredited by the BACP and you would be joining an experienced and established team.

You would be expected to work five days a week throughout the year, currently on campus and remotely. The post holder will be required to work one evening a week during semester times (September to May).

**The Opportunity**:
You would be joining an experienced and established team. The Assistant Director will share responsibilities for the operational management of the Service, as well as maintaining a counselling practice **.**

The University Counselling Service is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

**Your skills and attributes for success**:

- You will be educated to degree level and qualified in counselling/psychotherapy and will be professionally accredited
- You will have at least 5 years post qualification experience, including recent experience of student counselling in HE
- You will have people and project management skills identifiable through previous experience
- You should be interested in working in a multi-disciplinary team and have a clear understanding of how the organisational context impacts on therapeutic decisions. Flexibility and the ability to respond to multiple demands and crisis situations is essential as well as experience working with people at all levels within a large organisation
- You will be experienced in working with brief therapeutic modalities, and in delivering counselling and support by video or telephone You will have an expert knowledge of best counselling practice, experience of delivering training workshops and be looking to build your experience in a complex and challenging environment
- With excellent communication skills, you will have the ability to build professional networks and establish influential relationships with colleagues, you will have a track record of leading and motivating staff including skills in implementing and managing change
