University of Warwick, United Kingdom University of Warwick Full time

Fixed-term contract until 31 August 2024, 1.0 FTE.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow who will work on an EPSRC funded research project in developing novel grid-scale compressed air energy storage (CAES) technology and its integration with power systems. The project will invest how to integrate CAES with high-temperature thermal energy storage to achieve high energy conversion efficiency, high energy and power density, and operational flexibility. The post will primarily work on CAES system modelling and analysis, and its integration with power and energy systems; the post will work closely with another Research Fellow who has the expertise in thermal dynamics.

This full-time post is available from 1 April 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Research Fellow will join the Power and Control Systems Research Laboratory at the University of Warwick.

If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the University grade structure (£31,411). Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£32,348).

Interview date: TBC

4. To draft work package and project reports to report the progress at the project review meetings

5. To develop a simplified whole system model for a high-temperature integrated compressed air energy storage suitable for energy system integration in working closely with the Research Fellow with the expertise of thermal dynamics

6. To explore the potential of the energy storage system integration with wind power generation and local energy systems.

7. To investigate the role/benefits of the integrated energy storage

9. To test hypotheses and analyse scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate

10. Aid in the optimisation of compressed air energy storage design and operations

**Additional Tasks**

1. To manage own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines

2. To adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols

3. To contribute ideas for new research projects
