The Department of Chemistry is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow to contribute to developing and delivering high quality Chemistry teaching, particularly in the general area of organic chemistry, in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Warwick.

We are looking for an enthusiastic academic to join the department and support teaching, learning and assessment activities including lectures, tutorials, workshops, and managing teaching laboratory experiments.

You must demonstrate sufficient breadth and depth of specialist knowledge through previous research, teaching or industrial experience to develop and deliver teaching, learning and assessments in organic chemistry. You will have a good honours degree (minimum 2:1) and a postgraduate qualification (PhD) in a relevant discipline.

You will be familiar with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning and be able to demonstrate previous experience of teaching in higher education. You will also have an ability to use a range of delivery techniques to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire effective learning.

You must have the capacity to contribute collegiately to the life and community of the Department by undertaking a variety of duties, such as supporting recruitment open days and outreach activities which may occasionally require weekend work.

You will have strong communication, IT, time management and organisational skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills with relevant experience of working independently and as part of a team. You will understand equal opportunity issues and practical health and safety concerns in a university teaching context. Engagement in professional, pedagogic and practitioner research and other scholarly activity is also expected.

**JOB PURPOSE**

The appointee will contribute to developing and delivering high quality Chemistry teaching in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Warwick as a Teaching Fellow. A fixed-term 12-month post is available to support our thriving undergraduate BSc and MChem programmes.

The appointee will be required to deliver and develop undergraduate lectures, tutorials, workshops and laboratory-based teaching across a broad area of the Warwick chemistry syllabus with a specific focus on Organic Chemistry; as the role includes significant leadership of some aspects of undergraduate laboratory teaching the appointee will need excellent skills in experimental and analytical chemistry. Other duties may involve administration of teaching and assessment, as well as involvement in our undergraduate admissions activities, outreach activities and pastoral support of students.

**Teaching and Learning Support**:
1. Teach as a member of a teaching team in a developing capacity within an established programme of study, corresponding to a variety of teaching modes as needed (face-to
- face, online, blended, termly, weekly etc.) with the assistance of a mentor if required.

2. Develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches, corresponding to a variety of teaching modes as needed (face-to-face, online, blended, termly, weekly etc.) with guidance.

3. Identify learning needs of students and define appropriate learning objectives.

4. Ensure that content, methods of delivery and learning materials will meet the defined learning objectives.

5. Supervise the work of students, provide advice on study skills, and help them with learning problems.

6. Select appropriate assessment methods and criteria, assess the work and progress of students by reference to the criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.

**Administration and Other Activities**:
1. May be expected to attend departmental committees and meetings.

2. Undertake duties related to course administration, such as attendance records, etc.

4. Support and comply with the University and departmental teaching quality assurance standards and procedures, including the provision of such information as may be required by the department or the University.

5. Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, and other University regulations and good working practices in all aspects of work undertaking risk assessments, where appropriate.

6. Work within budget constraints.

7. To act with professionalism at all times and show respect to their colleagues and to understand and adhere to the University's value of dignity at work; they are also expected to work collegially and to support all the teams with which they have contact in achieving the University's objectives.
