The Role

The Driving the Electric Revolution Industrialisation Centre North East (DER-IC NE) is one of 4 state-of-the-art centres in a UK-wide initiative to support UK power electronics, machines and drives (PEMD) supply chain. Based in Sunderland, and managed by Newcastle University, DER-IC NE focuses on the assembly, manufacture and test of electrical machines and power electronic drives - technologies that underpin the world shift towards ‘Zero Carbon’.

DER-IC NE aims to accelerate the adoption of electrification technologies by providing services to industries across multiple sectors to de-risk capital investment in support of manufacturing process scale-up. This innovative, unique and ambitious initiative provides the blueprint for the University’s industry-facing electrification strategy.

The Head of Operations will be a senior member of the DER-IC NE leadership team. Working at the Sunderland site with a small but expanding multi-disciplinary team, the role will provide proactive leadership in operational management of DER-IC NE, ensuring appropriate operational controls, financial and administrative governance, and reporting procedures, tailored to the specific needs of mid-high technology readiness level (TRL) industry-facing manufacturing process development projects, are in place to ensure successful operation and managed growth of DER-IC NE.

Strong communication skills to ensure effective collaboration with internal team members and external customers, and initiative, the ability to multi-task, and willingness to be flexible and contribute across other Centre roles, are essential to guarantee longevity, sustainability, and delivery of the goals of DER-IC NE.

Interviews will take place on the 08th July 2023.
