Darlington, United Kingdom Department of International Trade Full time

This is a challenging role leading a high-performing personnel security team. As part of DIT’s core security team, you will be responsible for the personnel security specialism, providing strategic direction, anticipating challenges, driving performance, and building the capability required to support the department as it delivers its ambitious trade agenda, both in the UK and overseas.

We are looking for someone with experience in personnel security who can thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You’ll have a detailed understanding of national security vetting policies and processes, be familiar with CPNI best practice on insider risk management and be aware of the complex threat environment HMG faces both at home and abroad.

Utilising your credibility, experience, and expertise, you will build and maintain stakeholder relationships, both in and outside DIT, to ensure that personnel security policies and security controls remain appropriate and proportionate to assessed risks and are responsive and adaptable to changing threat environments, business requirements and central government policies.

If you're passionate about security, thrive in a demanding environment and possess the skills and experience required to succeed in this role then we’re keen to hear from you.

- Provide expert personnel security and people risk advice to senior decision makers on complex vetting cases and insider risk issues, in accordance with DIT’s security risk appetite.
- Work collaboratively with DIT stakeholders, notably HR, risk and DDaT colleagues, to continuously improve and streamline personnel security, national security vetting, and insider risk management provision in DIT.
- Alongside Culture, Education and Awareness colleagues, lead a programme of personnel security outreach to DIT staff and act as an ambassador for the security profession and function within DIT and across government.
- Be at the forefront in shaping personnel security policy, process, and best practice by engaging with and representing DIT at cross governmental and interdepartmental security fora and policy working groups.
- This role requires participation in an out of hours roster (approximately one week in eight), attracting an on-call allowance.
