We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate person to join our Cancer Service team to Lead and develop our Cancer Support Worker team. You will work alongside the Macmillan Support Hub Manager based at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. This person will need to work with, support, develop and lead the cancer support worker team as well as providing support to the Macmillan Cancer Information Support Hub. The post holder will primarily need to work alongside the Clinical Nurse Specialists within each cancer site to provide support, guidance and training to the CSW’s. In addition to this the post holder will need to work with the hub manager to ensure the hub continues to support its visiting patients and develops its outreach work. The post holder will also support the delivery of the wider cancer strategy

Service development - Assist in the development and delivery of policies, guidelines and competences and ensure they are adhered to by the Cancer Support Workforce and volunteers working within the Hub. To induct, train and develop new and existing Cancer Support Workers. To integrate the support worker role into the existing service with the aim of maintaining personalised care, ensuring an excellent level of patient experience.

Community engagement - Raising awareness of Cancer Support worker role within the organisation and wider community setting. To build networks within the organisation in collaboration with other Cancer support workers, the Hub and local support services. To work with the Lead Cancer Nurse to support the delivery of Cancer Service objectives and priorities linked to community engagement projects. To support the implementation and delivery of the Cancer Services community engagement strategy.

Patient Support - To provide non-clinical expert guidance and onward signposting to specialist teams and community support services.
Signpost patient to the appropriate team’s members and support the navigation of their cancer journey. Using communication skills to empathically impart information at all levels and frequently manage highly challenging situations

To provide support, development and guidance to the Cancer Support Workers and to recruit and induct new support workers. The post holder will provide guidance to patients, members of the public and staff to support patients through the complex cancer pathway. You will work closely with the Hub manager to develop and maintain strong links with community and voluntary services to ensure cancer support workers and the Hub are kept up to date with local services to signpost patients to. The post holder will contribute to developing the Hub volunteer workforce and offer support to these volunteers in the absence of the hub manager. The post holder will be required to work with the Lead Cancer Nurse to deliver the appropriate sections of the cancer strategy for the benefit of improving patient experience though the cancer support workers as well as responding to any changes in service needs supporting by the Lead Cancer Nurse.
