Lanarkshire, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

**Medical Education Fellowships in General Practice (0.5 WTE)**

**Department of Medical Education**

**NHS Lanarkshire**

**Post available from August 2023 until 6**th** August 2024**

The NHs Lanarkshire Medical Education department in collaboration with partner medical schools and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) provide education and training for both undergraduates and postgraduates

The NHS Lanarkshire Department of Medical Education seek enthusiastic GP fellows to assist in the development a cadre of educational leaders and training practices who will inspire and influence the present and future primary care workforce.

These Fellowships will enable the individual to develop specific skills related to Medical Education.

The Fellowship has three components:

- Local Educational component - we expect fellows to join in with the educational delivery within the primary care locality or NHS Lanarkshire and ideally take the lead in some aspect of educational delivery, evaluation or quality assurance. Fellows will be expected to join in the review and teaching of undergraduates and potentially trainees.
- Academic - We expect fellows to commence a postgraduate qualification relevant to medical education for example a certificate in medical education.
- Project work
- primarily this will be to work with colleagues to promote, support and develop teaching and training in Primary Care, either in a locality or the wider board area. This may include educational research / Quality Improvement Project/ presentation at conference/ publication in a peer-reviewed journal

The successful applicants will predominantly be based within a Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) locality team - this includes experienced managers / senior nursing / pharmacy / social care/ health promotion and a locality lead GP. Part of the working week maybe spent at the Medical Education Training Centre, Kirklands Hospital, Bothwell

Lanarkshire is split into North and South and comprises of 10 localities:
South: East Kilbride / Hamilton / Rutherglen / Cambuslang and Clydesdale

North: Cumbernauld and Kilsyth / Airdrie / Coatbridge / Wishaw / Motherwell / Bellshill.

They will be expected to integrate with that team, explore their educational priorities, and support the sustainable delivery of those. This will involve working with the locality to scope the interdependences and opportunities across teams for joint training, and develop new training opportunities within the locality for Undergraduate or postgraduate training.

This is an excellent opportunity to see the Health and Social care partnership in operation.

The successful applicants will be expected to engage regularly, and build relationships with, all the locality GP practices. The aim is to support delivery of their training commitments and facilitate the expansion of training on GP sites across all levels including undergraduate medical students, and the wider Multidisciplinary team.

The strategic direction of any work identified will be in line with Board and National strategic agendas such as the Primary Care Improvement plan, promotion of intermediate care and developments in acute discharge planning.

The post will be remunerated on the Salaried GP scale of £66,031- £98,555 whole time

Should you wish to discuss the posts further please contact Dr Ian Hunter, Director of Medical Education (01698 752838)

‘In NHS Lanarkshire we are committed to recruiting a workforce that fully reflects the diverse make-up of our society. A place where every individual can thrive, develop and succeed based on skill, knowledge and talent, regardless of race, disability, gender, sexual orientation, care experienced* or any other dimension that can be used to differentiate people from one another.
