**The Newt in Somerset**

The Newt in Somerset is a country estate with ancient woodland, historic gardens and far-reaching views, a new and unique destination with luxury hotel, spa, restaurants and an abundance of home-grown produce. Visitors can take a tour of the gardens, deer park and cyder press, dine in the Garden Café or browse our farm shops. Attracting some 200,000 visitors per year from all over the world, our vibrant and thriving garden attraction is animated throughout the seasons by special events, workshops and educational programmes.

**Our Woodland Team**

The woodland team are responsible for the care and maintenance of the tree collections across the estate. These include specimen trees and a range of different woodland eco systems. The team use a range of machinery and resources to maintain these areas and ensure the woodland habitat is managed to encourage and sustain wildlife.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Maintain and develop the grounds across the estate, assisting with all aspects of work where required
- Operate machinery, including tractors and trailers and handheld machinery
- Assist the woodland team in any projects or events.
- To be involved in visitor engagement that enhances their experience through representing the history, value, and vision of the Newt.
- Machinery maintenance on a variety of equipment
- Providing care and maintenance to trees across the estate
- Carry out a wide variety of tasks to ensure the plant collection is looked after to a high standard
- Ensure the woodland is managed to encourage biodiversity and that it is maintained for future generations
- Provide guidance and support to assistant woodland gardener and apprentices where required
- Following health and safety procedures whilst carrying out work across the estate
- Supporting the Head of Woodland and Lead Woodland Gardener to achieve the collective objectives of The Newt in Somerset

**Skills and Experience**
- Knowledge of managing woodland
- A thorough, precise, and well organised individual
- An eagerness to provide the highest level of visitor experience
- Be able to work safely, with risk assessments and compliance with safety procedures
- Full and clean UK driving license
- Basic machinery maintenance knowledge
