South Kensington, United Kingdom Imperial College London Full time

Are you passionate about breaking down barriers so that students from underrepresented groups can excel in higher education? If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Student Support Coordinator (Priority Groups) within Student Services. We are a team that sits within the Academic Services directorate comprising specialist student support teams including Student Counselling and Mental Health Advice, Disability Advisory Service, Careers Service, Chaplaincy, Sexual Misconduct and Harassment Support, and support for underrepresented students.

Imperial College London is a world-leading university dedicated to providing an outstanding learning environment for our students. We prioritise student wellbeing and inclusion, and we are committed to ensuring that all students are able to reach their potential at Imperial, regardless of their background. We believe in encouraging a supportive, compassionate community that values respect, inclusivity, and equality.

This is a new part-time role, which has been created to support the College to achieve its targets and objectives to support underrepresented students at Imperial including care leavers, carers, estranged students, asylum seekers and refugees. The role will be situated in Student Services and be the single point of contact specifically for students who are **care leavers, carers, or estranged** **and coordinate dedicated support for these students. The role will work closely with the Student Support Coordinator (Forced Migrants) who supports students who are asylum seekers or refugees.

**Duties and responsibilities**:
You will work in our Student Services team to be the dedicated contact for students who are care leavers, carers, or estranged, providing administrative and pastoral support for their student journey, maintaining high levels of discretion and confidentiality. You will advise on the development of future targeted initiatives and work with colleagues to ensure support is effective and sustained. You will provide advice on and support the administration of financial support and queries from students within the remit. You will support the establishment and oversee a peer mentoring programme to support students from underrepresented groups.

You will build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues working in welfare and academic roles across the College to coordinate support and support the creation and delivery of training and resources to upskill colleagues. You will work creatively and problem-solve to break down barriers that prevent students from underrepresented groups on succeeding at Imperial.

**Essential requirements**:
We are looking for someone who has experience of working with individuals who are care leavers, carers, or estranged with an understanding of the specialised support that these individuals need both internally and externally to the university. You will have a proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and demonstrate empathy to the emotions of students and colleagues. A sound knowledge of current issues affecting the Higher Education sector in relation to supporting students from underrepresented groups will be essential.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability and confidence to provide non-judgmental support, explaining complex issues in an accessible way. You will have strong organisational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.

**Further information**:
This is a part-time (0.6 FTE) role offered on a permanent contract. This role will be based at the South Kensington Campus and eligible for hybrid working. We will be flexible to different part-time working patterns that can meet the needs of the role.

We are currently also recruiting for a Student Support Coordinator (Forced Migrants) who supports students who are refugees and asylum seekers, which will work closely with the role advertised in this ad. We may consider applicants for both roles.

We offer a plethora of staff benefits, including generous annual leave entitlements and pension schemes, which you can find out more about on our Benefits page.

***_The College is currently trialling a Work Location Framework until early 2023. Hybrid working may be considered for this role and the role holder may be expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite, with 40% the minimum time spent onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview._
