**Position**:
The Content Editor will have a wealth of experience with a background in health journalism to work with our Head of Content to write, commission and edit accessible, high quality and evidence-based content on the perimenopause and menopause across our platforms. You will be highly motivated and able to work at pace without sacrificing on quality and accuracy. You will be skilled at communicating often complex medical terms into clear, practical copy and able to write for both the general public and healthcare professionals. As an editor, you will be skilled at writing clear briefs, and develop close working relationships with freelance writers, clinicians and first-time authors to get the best out them. You will be skilled at using data to drive commissioning and writing decisions, embedding SEO into all our articles, and keep abreast of the latest research and developments in the menopause.

**Requirements**:

- You will have a key role under the direction of and supporting the Head of Content, to pitch and write engaging, high-quality content for the balance menopause support app and website, Newson Health Menopause Society and Newson Health Menopause and Wellbeing Centre, as well as projects with external stakeholders.
- Coming up with a steady stream of fresh ideas to produce authoritative, engaging content related to the perimenopause and menopause.
- Working independently and at pace to ensure work meets deadlines without sacrificing quality.
- Being skilled in writing a wide range of content, including news stories, advice articles, research summaries, op-eds and first person stories.
- Adapting voice to suit audience, such as explaining complex medical issues, treatments, and management approaches to the general public, or communicating guideline updates to healthcare professionals.
- Supporting the Head of Content in planning and maintaining a content calendar shared across the Newson Health Group.
- Supporting the Head of Content in post-production of the Dr Louise Newson Podcast.
- Supporting the Head of Content in commissioning and editing content from freelance writers and healthcare professionals. Writing clear briefs for writers and contributors, supporting first-time authors to get the best out of them, and delivering feedback to contributors.
- Editing content to ensure it is engaging, accurate, referenced and evidence-based.
- Stepping up in Head of Content’s absence.
- Using analytics, social media and the wider news agenda to stay one step ahead and ensure our content is timely and relevant to our audience.
- Ensuring all content is SEO-optimised.
- Social media monitoring to ensure our articles reflect user interests and needs.
- Refreshing and reviewing existing content on a regular basis. Liaising with Newson Health clinicians to ensure all content is medically-reviewed, evidence-based and referenced. - Working with marketing colleagues on promoting content.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as directed by the Head of Content

**Skills and Knowledge**:

- At least three years' experience in a journalist/ editing role
- NCTJ qualification or equivalent
- Excellent verbal communication, working closely with other teams and departments when developing and editing content.
- Excellent written communication, having a good command of the language you are writing and editing is crucial.
- Knowledge of media production and communication - Creative thinking, able to come up with innovative approaches to writing, structuring and presenting content
- Able to collaborate with other teams or departments during every stage of the editing process, streamlining the processes
- Attention to detail is vital when proofreading content for spelling, grammar or sentence structure
- Good time management, able to work in a deadline-driven environment with tight schedules and work on multiple projects at once
- Socially and commercially aware, when a woman needs help, we respond promptly and appropriately with the resources available to us.
