**Job summary**:
The post holder will participate in the following activities, under appropriate supervision, thereby gaining education and skills required to be a Clinical Technologist (Healthcare Science Practitioner)
- To study and gain formal qualification (BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science
- Medical Physics Technology) through the Healthcare Science Apprenticeship Programme. The post holder will carry out work-based learning in the department under supervision, whilst also attending academic sessions as defined by the academic institute.
- Nuclear Medicine
- Radiotherapy Physics
- Radiation Protection Services (RRPPS)
- Clinical Computing and Imaging Sciences (CCISS)

Within UHB, the post-holder will have main working relationships with other Clinical Technologists, Clinical Scientists and administrative staff of the Medical Physics Department, but may also work closely with Radiographers, Nurses Clinicians, and managers.

Externally they will interact mainly with clinical tutors, course lecturers and other staff of their Academic provider

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:

Clinical Technologists/ Healthcare Science Practitioner General Duties:

- Produce risk assessments
- Work safely specifically with regard to radioactive, biological and chemical hazards in accordance with current legislation
- Produce and review incident reports
- Perform equipment management procedures
- Operate quality management systems
- Carry out audit to continuously improve patient care and service needs.

- Use computer systems and software appropriate to their work
- Operate medical equipment, performing calibration, equipment quality assurance and equipment quality control
- Perform quality control procedures and review and interpret quality control results
- Maintain appropriate records
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders
- Undertake all mandatory training

5 GCSE passes at Grade C or above including Mathematics, English and science or equivalent qualifications or professional experience.

Be able to manage own workload under supervision and through direction and ensure this meets the required standards

Be able to work within safe systems of work and report any deficiencies in those systems.

Able to work with Standard Operating

Procedures and contribute to their review and implementation.

Able to work individually and as part of an extended team.

Have well developed manual dexterity and coordination.

Ability to work accurately and to deadlines under pressure of time.

Advanced verbal communication skills to convey complex information to a variety of listeners. Able to observe when communication has failed and to adopt different communication strategies under those circumstances.
