Immigration Enforcement (IE) is part of the newly formed Borders and Enforcement established on 01 April 2021 under the One Home Office transformation programme.
- Immigration Enforcement (IE) is the operational arm of the Home Office responsible for reducing the size of the illegal population and the harm it causes. Its key missions are:
- To prevent illegal immigration through greater compliance with immigration laws.
- Maximising returns of immigration offenders and Foreign National Offenders from the UK.
- Tackling the threats associated with immigration offending.

**Job description**:
Detention and Escorting Services (DES) is part of Immigration Enforcement and offers some of the most varied and challenging opportunities in Government. Immigration detention plays a vital role in maintaining effective immigration control and securing the UK’s borders. DES is responsible for managing and delivering immigration detention facilities and detained escorting within the UK, with immigration detention a key element of the Government’s immigration strategy, helping to perform the function of removing those not entitled to be in the UK.

Seven immigration removal centres (IRCs), one pre-departure accommodation (PDA) for families, and a number of residential short-term holding facilities are provided through contracts which include the provision of security operations, management and maintenance services. Our detention facilities provide a humane, safe and secure environment, whilst the Home Office considers their case pending resolution and subsequent removal/deportation from the UK.

This is a very exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced and varied role. Detainee Escorting Population Management Unit (DEPMU) priorities on a daily basis across escorting and population management can range from planning future activity, initial intake across UK from small boats, reporting centres and other locations; movements and management of those in HMPs, positioning for removal (scheduled and charters) and numerous other case progression and behavioural management movements, each requiring consideration and all together, requiring comprehensive logístical planning internally and with our multiple internal and external partners.

As a Higher Executive Officer (HEO) on the DEPMU Risk Assessment Team, you’ll be co-ordinating and leading a team responsible for the risk assessment of time-served foreign national offenders (TSFNOs) to ascertain their suitability to transfer from prison to the immigration removal estate. This is a critical and high-profile workstream, which is in place to safeguard the Home Office estate and ensure the safety and security of the individual (including their health and welfare needs and providing them with the appropriate level of care), other residents, all staff and members of the public. The roles and duties of the team are expected to diversify with the transfer of the Early Removal Scheme (ERS) workstream, in which the risk assessment of individuals entering the estate to facilitate removals under ERS will transfer to the team. The post holder will oversee this transition and development of this new work area.

The key tasks of the post holder will involve (but are not limited to):

- Leading the Risk Assessment Team to deliver the specified duties and responsibilities, ensuring that risk assessments are robust and high-quality to appropriately locate detained individuals, and consideration is given to the risk factors set out in the published detention guidance, as well as evidence contained within Home Office and Prison systems.
- Producing accurate weekly management information to senior management in DES, as well as monthly risk assessment statistics to the Head of Detention Operations.
