**Job summary**:
Borders Investigations (Dover)

This is a progressive office investigating complex border related referrals, primarily from Border Force. The investigators utilise various investigative techniques, identifying and following lines of enquiry nationally and internationally, securing evidence and considering alternative disruption opportunities. The teams respond to fast developing situations and work with key partners.

**Job description**:
All NCA Investigators will be involved in:
Investigating serious criminality; gathering and developing intelligence and evidence to build and contribute to case file preparations to prosecute offenders.

You will be working closely with other NCA departments and partner agencies to identify threats from criminality and work to pursue offenders in a challenging environment. Using innovative approaches and ground breaking techniques you will be making decisions which help disrupt and bring to justice criminals who present the highest threat to the UK.

You may be expected to work directly or indirectly in tackling child sexual abuse (CSA). This may involve exposure to Child Sexual Abuse images and material. You should consider the sensitive nature of the work before deciding to apply.

NCA Investigative teams respond to a broad range of threats including Organised Immigration Crime, Cyber Dependent Crime, Fraud, Human Trafficking, Child Sexual Abuse and exploitation, Firearms and Drugs, International Corruption, as well as having Internal Professional Standards teams.

**Person specification**:
How Dover Investigators explain their role

The NCA branch in Dover provides the investigative response to seizures made by Border Force at the Port of Dover and other local routes in and out of the UK. These investigations can range from money laundering to the importation of controlled drugs and firearms.

The variety of work conducted in Dover is a significant benefit of the role, allowing officers to develop a broad range of skills to respond to the offences committed at the border.

The casework element of the role incorporates liaison with a large range of departments and services such as the CPS, external providers, Border Force, and third party companies. Due to the nature of the work in Dover, liaison with overseas partners is very common, opening up opportunities to engage with foreign authorities and obtain evidence from abroad. In addition to this, referrals from the border incorporate a UK aspect, requiring national enquiries, arrests, interviewing suspects and searches of premises. This requires officers to be able to respond and adapt to the needs of an investigation from the outset.

The Dover branch is also tasked with development work, again broadening the types of investigations undertaken by the branch.

The office conducts a period of 1-in-4 on-call, Friday to Friday. This consists of early and late shifts, with officers from either shift called in to cover overnight referrals from Border Force. The variety of this system means an officer at Dover could be progressing case work at one moment and deploying on an arrest or search the next.

Dover officers consistently oversee and develop cases from arrest to court, including national/international enquiries, disclosure, telecoms, and forensics.

Working as part of the team in Dover incorporates a strong focus on work-life balance. Managers are up-to-date with their officers’ caseloads and consideration is given to the allocation of work to ensure even distribution.

Overall, working in Dover is a fulfilling, challenging, and varied role with the primary focus of protecting the public from harm.
