Engagement (Support) Worker

Bristol, United Kingdom Bristol City Council Full time

**Full Time, Permanent**

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an engagement worker to join the Through Care Service.

The Through Care Service supports children and young people aged 0-25 and their families, through their journey in care and as care leavers. There are 10 teams, three of which are dedicated to supporting young people aged 16-25 who are leaving care. These three teams have a practice lead, nine personal advisors, an engagement worker and a children’s social care assistant (admin).

The other seven teams are similarly structured but with social workers instead of personal advisors. We are based at B Bond in an open plan office overlooking the river and Ashton Court. We have high aspirations for our children and young people and are committed to providing services to achieve the best possible outcomes.

The engagement role involves working directly with care leavers on planned, specific pieces of work alongside the personal advisor where necessary to develop independence skills and improve outcomes for the young person.

The role involves supporting care leavers to reduce isolation and loneliness and increase independence. This is achieved through creating opportunities to attend activities within the service such as our monthly supper club held at Zaza Bazaar for care leaver adults and teatime clubs for care leaver parents and their children and other regular trips and outings.

The leaving care service is currently developing a series of Independence Workshops for Care Leavers to attend once their PAs have identified the skills they need to learn and develop.

As an engagement worker you will be involved in developing and running groups and events to promote confidence and positive wellbeing as well as signposting to relevant organisations.

The role also includes working with Care Leaver Parents to help them understand child development and attachment theory and help them identify areas they would like to improve upon as well as helping them to understand how their own experiences and adverse childhood experiences have impacted upon the way they respond to the world around them.

You will need excellent communication skills and the ability to form and maintain relationships with young people and their families.

You will have opportunities to become involved in projects and areas of interest.

**Why Bristol City Council?**
