We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team at a specialist day college in Abingdon. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and independence of students aged 16-25 in a supportive and engaging environment.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing 1:1 and/or 2:1 support to students, helping them develop independent living skills and facilitating their access to the local community. Your duties will include:
- Engaging with students in various activities such as arts, crafts, IT, cooking, horse riding, swimming, trampolining, and more.
- Fostering a positive and stimulating environment for young people with diverse abilities, including those with physical disabilities and challenging behaviour.
- Encouraging students to participate in community activities, promoting social integration and community engagement.
- Demonstrating proactiveness and adaptability in addressing the individual needs of each student.
- Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic and tailored approach to each student’s development.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Relevant experience working with individuals with complex learning disabilities and autism.
- Proven ability to provide 1:1 and/or 2:1 support in a dynamic and challenging environment.
- Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse needs of students, including those with physical disabilities and challenging behaviour.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
- Flexibility to participate in a wide range of activities, both on-site and in the community.
- A proactive and positive attitude towards supporting the personal and educational development of young people.
