About the role
Waste Services contributes directly to the delivery of the Council’s priorities, particularly Green and Clean, Environmental and Wellbeing and Robust Resource Management.

It is a high profile, essential service, used by all of West Northamptonshire’s residents providing kerbside waste collection services, five Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), a Reuse and Recycling Centre and street cleansing operations, with specific statutory duties including making the arrangements for the treatment and disposal of waste that is collected. Waste services are delivered through a combination of in-house, joint venture and contractual arrangements.

What will you be doing?
The Waste Management Team at West Northants Council is seeking to recruit a Waste Contracts Officer. In this role you’ll provide operational contract and technical waste support, meeting the needs of the waste management service and our customers' requirements.

You’ll work with colleagues in the waste operations team to proactively manage waste contracts to help ensure the safe, efficient and cost effective management of these services, in fulfilling the Council's statutory duties.

You’ll assess an array of complex waste related situations, ensuring the use of appropriate waste contract monitoring against service standards, and proactively build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The post holder will work with colleagues to monitor and review services, implement changes and co-ordinate business improvement initiatives, meeting the objectives of improving and transforming the services in a challenging financial environment.

One of your primary roles will be to carry out site inspections at the HWRCs, contracted residual waste facilities and at our Closed Landfills, dealing with service enquiries and supporting the wider Waste Operations Team. This will include supporting the E-permits system for our Household Waste Recycling Centres.

About you

Applicants should have a strong customer focus, preferably along with knowledge and experience of assessing health and safety in an operational environment, and of resolving technical waste issues. An excellent communicator, you’ll demonstrate a proven ability to negotiate, influence and engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and customers.
