If your own conduct in relation to safeguarding of children gives cause for concern, the Local Authority’s agreed safeguarding procedures will be followed.

**Purpose of Post**:

- To actively participate and work as part of the Nursery Schools Early Years Foundation Stage team, which provides education and care for children aged 0 -5 years, their families and carers.
- To support groups of children, including planning for the learning environment, and record keeping.

**PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES**

1. To plan suitable indoor and outdoor learning experiences based on children’s interests, dilemma’s and developmental needs for a number of children aged between 0-5 that encompasses the Early Years Foundation Stage. This may include responsibility for a particular area of the curriculum.

2. To observe and access children’s development and learning. To maintain confidential files, reports and developmental records for assessment purposes, for reference for core groups, case conferences and court when necessary.

3. To undertake home visits to children and their families, in consultation with other team members, working individually with parents and children respecting and understanding their individual needs and maintaining courtesy and confidentiality at all times.

4. To report any cause for concern regarding a child’s health or welfare to the designated senior member of staff and to record any accidents to children reporting to the child’s key worker where appropriate.

5. To participate in visits and outings which extend the curriculum as well as other social activities which are part of the nursery schools’ involvement in the community.

6. To attend regular team and staff meetings, all training days and sessions for parent interviews where appropriate to ensure up to date knowledge and information is available.

7. Where required, to design and deliver family programmes for parents and children encouraging parental involvement in children’s learning and other centre activities.

8. To provide support as mentor for students and ancillary staff who are involved in Childcare Education Courses.

The Job Description reflects the major tasks to be carried out by the post holder and identifies the level of responsibility at which they will be required to work. In interests of effective working, the major tasks may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changing departmental needs and circumstances. Such reviews, and any consequential changes, will be carried out in consultation with the post holder.
