**About the role**

We are looking for a casual Support Worker to work within our Homeless Services based at Lozells Road, Birmingham.

As a Support Worker you will be providing early and targeted support to aid the recovery and resilience of people with multiple vulnerabilities, working across a portfolio of longer-term accommodation-based services intended to positively address the 'revolving door' nature of shorter term supported accommodation.

You will support a vulnerable adults customer group, with complex needs, to develop the knowledge and skills they need to better manage their lives, including accessing appropriate services, empowering them to build successful relationships within their community, improving health and well-being and increasing levels of independence as they move through a prevention pathway model.

**Key responsibilities**
- Undertake effective needs and risk assessments with people referred to the service in accordance with the service’s eligibility criteria.
- Develop co-produced, outcome focused support plans that reflect each customer’s personal strengths, goals and aspirations.
- Support the customer to settle in and maintain their accommodation.
- Act as a community navigator, linking customers into local services and activities to establish networks of support for the individual across Birmingham.
- Work in collaboration with key agencies such as housing, health and substance misuse services and acknowledge any actual or perceived barriers to accessing services.
- Co-ordinate interventions provided by other agencies to ensure that the right support is offered at the right time to enable the recipient to build resilience and progress on their journey to recovery
- Lead on the completion of Risk Assessments with individuals and professionals, taking a proportionate approach to prevent or minimise risks using risk enablement techniques.
- Demonstrate a personalised approach to safeguarding, working in line with policies and procedures and in accordance with the six key principles of safeguarding.
- Support customers to develop the skills required to live independently, including maximising income, budgeting and addressing debt.
- Support customers to access employment, education and training opportunities.
- Adopt innovative and effective methods to consult and involve service users in the planning and delivery of the service they receive.
- Provide support in a sensitive way which considers customer needs including age, gender, ethnic origin, language, culture, faith, sexuality, gender identity, disability and any specific lifestyle preferences.

**About you**

We are looking for individuals with relevant experience in providing specialist support that may and will cover a range of activities:

- Excellent communication skills as well as a customer focussed approach are essential
- Proven ability to work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, both statutory and non-statutory
- Experience of agile working across locations to support a case load of customers
- A working knowledge of legislation regarding delivering support
- Experience in facilitating customer involvement
- IT Literate and competent with Word, Excel etc
- Maintaining accurate records that capture identified outcomes and Key Performance Indicators.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadline
- Understand the wider strategic and legislative framework and associated outcomes
- A flexible approach to working within a shift pattern environment
- An empathetic nature with the passion to support vulnerable adults
