Norwich, United Kingdom Norfolk County Council Full time

**Permanent Contract | 22.2 hours per week | £14,697 to £16,107 per annum (Grade F) | Norwich**

Are you passionate about working with and supporting parents/carers and young people, enabling them to self-advocate on matters relating to SEN and Disability?

Are you able to explain complex legal processes to parent/carers and young people to ensure they are able to participate in them?

Would you be able to explain complex SEND legislation to enable parent/carers to be informed of their rights in relation to their child/young person’s SEND?

Are you also passionate about engaging with children and young people who have a range of special educational needs/disabilities, to enable their meaningful participation in discussions and plans made about their education and care?

Are you able to hold a number of complex cases, all with varying actions and timescales following a legal process?

Are you a skilful communicator, capable of drawing out positive ways forward, maintaining clear and professional boundaries, managing realistic expectations and mediating discussions in often complex casework?

If so, we would like to hear from you.

Norfolk SENDIASS provides confidential and impartial information, advice and support about special educational needs & disabilities (SEND) for children, young people, parents and carers, to empower them to play an active and informed role in issues relating to their education and care.

The focus of the role is working directly with parents/carers, children/young people, places of learning, legal professionals, mediators and colleagues across a range of statutory and voluntary services. The post holder will be a source of information and expertise on SEND legislation and more specifically EHCP appeals and mediation processes. The role will require the post holder to work directly with parent/carers, children and young people to enable them to take part in legal processes and ensure their views, wishes and feelings are listened to.

The service plays a crucial, arms-length and impartial role within the Local Authority in promoting the active participation of children and young people who have SEND and their parents/carers in issues around SEN and disability. It works with parents/carers, children and young people as well as education settings, the Local Authority and health to maintain positive relationships keeping channels of communication open where possible, to avoid escalation of any areas of conflict and disagreement.

The role is primarily face-to-face work but includes office/home-based work necessary to maintain the significant amount of data inputting/record keeping, report writing and telephone/online work that is required for the role.

If you are organised, resilient and empathic, with excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, then we would like to hear from you.

A full driving license and access to a car is essential in order to carry out the full responsibilities of this role.

Informal discussions about this role are encouraged. Please contact the SENDIASS Manager, Niamh Keane on 01603 303369.

We want our people to be inspired and motivated to work well together, make the most of our workspaces, enjoy a healthy work-life balance, and deliver excellent services to Norfolk and its people. Flexibility is built into the way we work, with hybrid working a key feature for many roles. Our technology platform and equipment are first class, enabling you to connect and collaborate remotely.
