Junior Clinician in Veterinary Neurology (Intern)
The University of Glasgow’s Small Animal Hospital is seeking to recruit a Junior Clinician to contribute to the delivery of an efficient and effective small animal neurology referral service by providing clinical activity in the Small Animal Hospital under supervision of ECVN Diplomates and residency-trained clinicians. The small animal neurology service currently has 4 clinicians, 3 residents, 1 junior clinician (neurology intern) and 2 neurology nurses. You will also contribute to the School objectives relevant to national and international excellence in clinical service, teaching and research.
The School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine has an excellent international reputation in teaching, clinical services and research and is accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the European Association of Establishments of Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The award-winning Small Animal Hospital is staffed by a friendly and dynamic multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, residents, interns, RVNs and support staff, allowing us to offer a full range of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to approximately 17,000 cases a year. We have all the facilities you would expect of a state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary hospital, including in-house MRI, CT, CUSA-ultrasonic aspirator and electrodiagnostic machine.
**Job purpose**
To contribute to the delivery of an efficient and effective small animal neurology referral service by providing clinical activity in the Small Animal Hospital under supervision of ECVN Diplomates and residency-trained clinicians. To contribute to the School objectives relevant to national and international excellence in clinical service, teaching and research.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
**Clinical**:
1. To contribute to the delivery of a small animal neurology referral service by providing a high quality service and appropriate advice to external referring practices and owners that will consequently maintain a clinical referral workload necessary to support the commercial, teaching and scholarship activities.
2. To support the development of novel approaches and techniques to aid diagnosis and treatment and exploit the opportunities to enhance the income generation capability of the service.
3. To contribute to the out-of-hours referral service provision at weekends on a 1:4 basis which may include CT image acquisition and anaesthesia.
4. To participate in the out-of-hours first opinion service if required, ensuring adequate cover is available for the provision of direct supervision, advice and expertise when required.
5. To ensure compliance with the continuing professional development requirements of the appropriate speciality and the RCVS.
6. To participate in promotional activities and events relating to the Small Animal Hospital.
7. To contribute to the ongoing development of the academic discipline of the Division.
**Teaching**:
8. To support the delivery of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching activities within veterinary medicine in accordance with established programme.
9. To support the development of creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, in accordance with the University's Quality Enhancement Strategy, so that the educational opportunities available to students are maintained or improved.
10. To deliver a range of assessment activities and engage fully in the examination process as appropriate, [using a variety of methods and techniques] and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support learning.
**Clinical Scholarship**:
11. To support and collaborate in appropriate clinical scholarship projects/trials within the Small Animal Hospital and to present findings at national and international meetings to ensure a high profile for the School, as well as the University of Glasgow.
12. To attend and actively participate in national/international events/research seminars/conferences within the service area.
**Administration**:
13. To contribute to the administrative work of the Hospital/Division as assigned by the Clinical Director/Head of Division.
14. To contribute to the performance and development review processes as appropriate in accordance with university strategy.
**Knowledge/Qualifications**
**Essential**:
A1 Veterinary degree registerable with RCVS.
**Desirable**:
B1 Prior training and experience in small animal neurology
B2 Masters, PhD [or other evidence of research training].
