Job Purpose

To contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive infectious diseases diagnostic service within the University of Glasgow's Veterinary Diagnostic Services, focusing on companion animals and teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.

This includes providing a high-quality service as detailed in client service agreements, offering expert advice to veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses, and veterinary students, and contributing to the development of an administrative framework for systematic and consistent reporting of infectious disease results.

To carry out associated tasks as requested by the Head of Division/Clinical Director to contribute to the School/College objectives and to achieve national and international excellence in clinical service, teaching, and research.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Infectious Diseases service by providing a high-quality service as detailed in client service agreements.
  • Assist in the development of an administrative framework to facilitate systematic and consistent reporting of infectious disease results.
  • Develop the international reputation of the companion animal infectious diseases component of the veterinary diagnostic service.
  • Support the training of clinical scholars (residents in infectious disease/veterinary public health).
  • Undertake continued personal development, in compliance with requirements of the RCVS.
Teaching
  • Take responsibility for the organisation and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities.
  • Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum.
  • Support the development of creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Lead and engage in the delivery of a range of assessment activities.
  • Deliver teaching, including CPD courses (nationally and internationally).
Clinical Research
  • Collaborate in clinical/diagnostic investigations and evidence-based medicine.
  • Attend and participate in national/international events/research seminars/conferences.
  • Contribute to external funding applications.
Administration
  • Undertake Divisional and School-level administration as requested.
  • Contribute to the Performance & Development Review process.
Engagement
  • Participate in promotional activities and events related to Veterinary Diagnostic Services.
  • Develop new ideas and participate in the delivery of continuing professional development (CPD) for practitioners or researchers.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • A1 Veterinary degree registerable with the RCVS.
  • Expertise across the field corresponding to training and qualifications.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Time/project and people management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated, able to plan for contingencies and think strategically.
  • Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.

Desirable:

  • Experience of clinical work in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory.
  • Evidence of conducting and publishing research.
  • Evidence of involvement in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7/8, £39,347 - £44,263/ £48,350 - £56,021 per annum pro rata.

This post is part-time, 14 hours per week to cover maternity leave for up to 12 months or until the substantive postholder returns.
