Clinician in Veterinary Clinical Pathology

**Job Purpose**
To deliver an efficient and effective Clinical Pathology service, enhance and develop the delivery of clinical teaching to undergraduates and postgraduate students/clinical scholars, and to undertake clinical research/scholarship within the service. Thereby to contribute to the School objectives relevant to national and international excellence in clinical service, teaching, research/scholarship.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
**Clinical**
1. To contribute to the Clinical Pathology service (within Veterinary Diagnostic Services) by providing a high quality service and appropriate advice to veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and veterinary students in the University of Glasgow and to external referring practices and research clients, that will consequently maintain a clinical diagnostic workload necessary to support the commercial, teaching and research activities of the School.
2. To be proactive in the development of novel diagnostic approaches and techniques, to aid diagnosis and treatment and exploit opportunities to enhance the income generation capability of the service.
3. To assist in ensuring that adequate cover is available for the provision of advice and expertise.
4. Participate in and develop clinical pathology aspects of veterinary diagnostic services.
5. To support the planning, organisation and delivery of training requirements for residents, with a view to their successful completion of appropriate examinations.
6. To develop an international reputation in clinical pathology while developing and enhancing the research profile of the discipline
7. To maximise opportunities available for continued personal development including compliance with the CPD requirements of the RCVS
**For appointment at Grade 8**:
8. Make a significant contribution towards the diagnostic services, including development and management.
9. Contribute to development of the Clinical Pathology residency programme.
**Teaching**
10. To take responsibility for the organisation and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities, as directed by the Head of Division in consultation with the course and module leaders
11. To support the development of creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, in accordance with the University’s Quality Enhancement Strategy, so that the educational opportunities available to students are maintained or improved.
12. To actively contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum, in a manner that supports a research-led approach to student learning.
13. To lead and engage in the delivery of a range of assessment activities and engage fully in the examination process as appropriate, (using a variety of methods and techniques) and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support learning.
14. Act as a principal or co-supervisor of postgraduate residents and research students.
15. Delivering teaching, including CPD courses (nationally and internationally).
16. Participate in undergraduate student mentoring.
17. Acting as a principal or co-supervisor of postgraduate clinical scholars and research students as appropriate.
**For appointment at Grade 8**:
18. Provide expertise in module leadership
**Clinical Research/Scholarship**
19. To initiate and/or collaborate in, clinical/diagnostic investigations and evidence-based medicine of an external reputation and develop a consistent output of publications in high quality refereed clinical/veterinary pathology journals and/or textbooks.
20. To attend and participate in national/international events/research seminars/conferences within the service area.
22. To contribute to UG (summer projects) and PG student/resident supervision where appropriate
23. Being an investigator and/or co-investigator for research grants as appropriate.
**Administration**
24. To contribute to the performance and development review processes as appropriate in accordance with university strategy.
25. To undertake Divisional and School-level administration as requested by the Head of Division/Head of School.
**Engagement**
26. To participate in promotional activities and events related to Veterinary Diagnostic Services and Division of Pathology, Public Health & Disease Investigation.
27. To develop new ideas and participate in the delivery of continuing professional development (CPD) for practitioners or researchers in the UK and overseas.
28. To contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile in line with the University's Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.
**Knowledge/Qualifications, Skills and Experience**
**Essential**:
A1 Veterinary degree registerable with RCVS.
A2 Prior training and experience in veterinary clinical pathology relevant to a further qualification (eg. RCPath fellowship or ECVCP diploma or equivalent).
A3 Proven interest in clinical pathology eg publication, relevant CPD attendance.
