Activities and Responsibilities of the Post
Principle Purpose of the role
To safeguard and support victims of domestic abuse whilst perpetrators are engaged with the DAPU behavioural change programme.
Reporting to the MASH DS, the successful applicant will work one to one with survivors of domestic abuse, to offer support and safeguarding whilst perpetrators are engaged on the behavioural change programme. The role requires the management of sensitive information, which must be provided to appropriate individuals in a professional and compassionate manner.
The successful applicant will receive training in delivering long term behavioural change, undertake risk assessments in respect of those suitable for the programme, liaise with partner agencies and have a pivotal role in the development of this innovative programme for the Constabulary.
Main Activities of the Role
- Work with the Domestic Abuse Perpetrator Unit by providing ongoing contact with victims whose partner or ex-partner is engaging with the programme.
- Complete safety planning and offer intensive support to victims of Domestic Abuse when perpetrators are engaged in the DAPU behavioural change programme. Consider safeguarding measures and support available to assist in reducing risk posed to them.
- Complete and review Domestic Abuse Stalking and Harassment (DASH) and Domestic Abuse Risk Assessments (DARA) with victims.
- Attend multi-agency DAPU case review meetings to share information and appropriately safeguard victims and children.
- Assist with providing DAPU awareness sessions to officers, partners and professionals. Provide consultancy and advice to professionals about DAPU work.
- Provide and coordinate administrative work of the DAPU working closely with case workers to deliver a programme of long-term behavioural change.
- Any other duties commensurate with the role and grade as may reasonably be requested by line management.
Person Specification
It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:
- Previous experience of working with victims or perpetrators of Domestic Abuse
- Ability to communicate well with individuals at all levels and build rapport with victims
- Ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues, external partners and other agencies
- Ability to understand and facilitate the sharing of relevant information with statutory partners and support agencies
- Ability to manage own caseload with mínimal supervision
- Ability to prioritise caseloads and identify risk
- Ability to travel as required
It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:
- Have an understanding of the support available to victims of domestic abuse
- Previous experience working within a multi-agency environment
Hours of work are 37 per week Monday to Friday flexibly between 0800 - 1800. This post is offered on a fixed term basis only until 31.03.2025.

- Whilst the role is normally based at the aforementioned location, you may be required to work at other establishments within Suffolk Constabulary as may be reasonably required. Police Staff Conditions of Service will be adhered to in such instances
