Housing Officer

Banbury, United Kingdom Cherwell District Council Full time

The housing allocations team primarily allocates social housing in Cherwell but there is not enough social housing to meet demand. In this role you will seek out new opportunities in the private rented sector, both inside and outside of Cherwell, to help secure more housing for those in need. You will promote and help develop our incentives to private sector landlords as well as help monitor and sustain tenancies that have been created.

You will need to show initiative and work independently, whilst you will also work closely with the rest of the housing allocations team, tenancy support team, housing options and housing standards team. This will enable you to gain a good understanding of our housing service and allow opportunities for progression.

We can offer a flexible working pattern, ideally including 3-4 hours per day over 5 days per week. We also offer hybrid working arrangements with a split between office and homeworking.

The Person

We are seeking a person who has experience of working in a housing or letting agency environment and providing advice to landlords and tenants. You will have a can-do attitude and be able to work on your own initiative, with knowledge of the regulations that affect the private rented sector. You must have excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

The Benefits

The Council is an equal opportunities employer and has flexible working practices.
- A generous annual leave entitlement
- Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme
- Cycle to work scheme (after one years’ service)
- Incremental pay award (awarded annually in April after one years’ service)
