Mental Health Support Worker

**Job Summary**
Minimum of 20 hours per week plus one sleep in (and one 'on-call' per week which is to cover for emergency situations or sickness).
Working on a 4 week rolling rota (which will include weekends and Bank Holidays)

- in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 all support/care staff will be required to be checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) list.
**Responsibilities and Duties**
**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**The Support Worker will work with the support and supervision of the Registered Manager.**
**1 HOUSEHOLD RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Together with the other members of the Housing Support Staff Team the worker will**:
1.1 Be involved with regular service users’ meetings to plan menus and discuss the general running of the house.
1.2 Record any monies, or other valuables, deposited by the service users for safe
- keeping.
1.3 Help maintain records of all expenditure made on provisions, equipment and any other items.
1.4 Maintain records of the dates of visits to the house made by other agencies and authorised visitors.
1.5 Help maintain records of details of any special needs/medical treatment required by service users.
1.6 Know and follow the procedures to be observed in the event of fire and maintain records of fire drills.
1.7 To assist with the running of designated roles within the house, as allocated by the Registered Manager
**KEY WORKER RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Together with the other members of the Housing Support Staff Team the worker will**:
2.1 Be responsible for planning, implementing and assessing individual care/support programs for the service user for whom he/she is the Key Worker. This is carried out after discussion with the Registered Manager.(These programs will be based on the assessed needs of the service user in any of their day to day living skills, e.g. financial, social skills, hygiene, community presence and participation, mental health, rights and respect, religion, physical health, sexuality.)
2.2 Know and follow all service users’ individual programs of care/support.
2.3 Carry-out, as asked to do so, either by the Registered Manager or the key worker, aspects of care/support required for all service users so that their needs are met, even when the key worker is absent. This may include some Personal Care.
2.4 In all key working activity, be constantly communicating with the Registered Manager regarding activities and work undertaken and report any deficits in care/ support which may necessitate reviewing or altering care/support programs (in conjunction with the in-house and multi-disciplinary team).
2.5 Be involved in six-monthly in-house care/support reviews.
2.6 Be involved with CPA and the wider multi-disciplinary team.
2.7 Be able to do sleep-in duties either while 'on-call' or as overtime.
2.8 Be able to cover at least four ‘On-Call’ duties over a 4 week rolling rota (to cover Emergency Situations, Sickness etc) - Week days 1500hrs - 0900hrs or Weekend 24 Hours 0900 - 0900.
2.9 Be willing to work flexible hours - which will at times include lone working.(Please note that working hours also cover evenings, weekends and bank holidays).
2.10 Attend staff meetings as per Rota.
2.11 Undertake training as designated by the Registered Manager/Director of ABLE, or to fulfil the Continuing Personal Development Plan (CPD), as agreed at the annual appraisal.
2.12 In accordance with Schedule III, Health and Social Care Act, 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2010, all staff will be required to be checked by the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).
PERSON SPECIFICATION
**The Housing Support Worker will be required to have the following**:
1 Ability to work within a supervised structure to achieve agreed goals
2 Ability to work independently when necessary.
3 Ability to understand other people.
4 Ability and willingness to learn to work alongside people with mental health problems and to learn new skills.
5 Ability to communicate own needs and to recognise and communicate when he/she is unsure of other’s needs.
6 Ability to handle and record monetary transactions accurately.
7 Ability to keep extensive written records
8 Ability to undertake training as required and to gain the Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care
