Based in the Faculty of Health, the School of Nursing and Midwifery programmes in the fields of adult, child and mental health nursing and in midwifery have been designed with our students’ career and the future needs of the workforce in mind. The School works in partnership with local NHS trusts to drive forward clinical research and support students in their learning to become the best nurses and midwives they can be. State-of-the-art facilities and equipment help students maximise their potential and develop their core skills, preparing them to embark on exciting and rewarding careers. The School offers further support for student career and professional development in the areas of healthcare, surgical care practice, emergency care and general practice nursing. An interdisciplinary approach to research covers sustainability, the evolution of services, use of new genetic knowledge and technologies, the ageing population, use of internet and mobile technologies, changes in clinical education, contemporary nursing, and how knowledge is translated into practice and policy.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a NIHR funded multi-disciplinary evaluation of a national midwifery initiative. The study is led by Professor Aled Jones at the University of Plymouth (UoP), with project partners located at various universities, NHS institutions and organisations in Cardiff, Birmingham, and London. The researcher, who will be based at UoP and line-managed by Professor Jones, will be mentored and supervised by the team's senior academics and work closely with researchers at partner institutions.
The position will suit a talented post-doctoral, mixed-methods and/or qualitative researcher who is confident in undertaking qualitative data collection within NHS settings, data analysis and report writing. Applicants who have previously undertaken research in health and social care disciplines and/or the social sciences are particualrly sought. Other key skills, in addition to sound research knowledge and writing skills, include strong interpersonal skills and communication, team working, adherence to deadlines and attention to detail. Travel and short-periods of overnight stays at case study locations are an essential requirement of the post. This is an excellent opportunity to join an experienced team of researchers undertaking a large study of national and international importance.
There is an essential requirement within this role that you will be required to travel to and work at different University sites and/or other business locations that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Please refer to the job description for further information.
