**Roj Women’s Association** is an innovative, exciting, grassroots charity working across London supporting Kurdish and Turkish women. Our purpose is to bring to an end the harm done through domestic and sexual violence to survivors, women and children from BAME backgrounds particularly those from Kurdish and Turkish backgrounds.
You will be joining a team of committed and inspiring individuals whose dedication has helped many Kurdish and Turkish women. We are looking for a friendly and diligent individual to join our new service and help us make a difference for women from Kurdish and Turkish backgrounds.
**About You**: We're looking for a highly organized and self-motivated applicant. You will have a “can-do‟ approach and demonstrable commitment to Roj Women’s Association and the women empowerment approach. The Older Person Peer Support Worker role will be central to our success, in providing support for women over the age of 50. A support worker should have exceptional communication skills and interpersonal skills that allow these professionals to build relationships and trust with the service users. They will work closely with the team members and will be committed to raising the profile and awareness of Roj Women.
The post-holder will be supported to grow and develop in this role, through an active approach to training and development, and through a positive and empowering working environment. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about improving the lives of older people, who have well-developed interpersonal skills and who are willing to go “that extra mile” to meet our challenging targets.
**About the Role**:An exciting career step to lead on community building for older people, supporting women who are 50+, at risk of social isolation or who have suffered a recent life event that threatens their wellbeing. You will be responsible for offering specialist information, signposting, guidance and short-term support to older people living in London to maintain their independence. Besides, you are expected to organise short trips, breakfast clubs and social groups. You will ensure that those with mental health issues, disabilities and others at risk of social isolation are encouraged to engage with our services. As part of this role, you should be available to travel around London to visit service users and have meetings with local authorities, other women's organisations, and community centers. Building relationships and referral pathways to improve the effectiveness of current services is the key to this role. You might be required to attend external meetings with professionals. You are expected to work with other services provided by Roj Women’s Association, attend team meetings, and represent the organisation in external meetings. To be successful in this role, the applicant must promote participation, collaboration and have the ability to build strong, positive relationships with community organisations, and other stakeholders.
If you are passionate about engaging with older people in a diverse community and can work on your own initiative, we would like to hear from you.
