The aim of these posts is to enable you to develop capabilities in medical education while gaining experience in one or two medical specialties and acute medicine on call. You will be key to enhancing the training of foundation doctors, core medical trainees, physician associates and advanced nurse practitioners.

You would be supported to study for a PG certificate in medical education (Teaching and Learning for Health Professionals) at the University of Bristol. This will be funded by the Trust.

You will receive training in one or two sub-specialties including cardiology, renal medicine, neurology, rheumatology, gastroenterology endocrinology and respiratory medicine, depending on your interests. Other interests can be accommodated. This will include both clinic and ward-based experience.

You would spend 40% of your time in education and 60% in clinical medicine, including specialty medicine. On-call commitments are typically one evening a week between 5pm and 9pm and ten weekend long days a year.

The PGME team exists to maintain and develop Gloucestershire’s reputation as a centre of excellence for postgraduate training. We aim to demonstrate a positive learning culture through supporting the professional development of faculty, just as much as that of learners at earlier stages of their careers

**Alongside your Ward Clinical Commitments**:

- Project leadership contributing to further development of Healthcare Education Innovation and Research in Gloucestershire
- Participation and project leadership in the Enhance: Generalist Skills trailblazer programme, part of Health Education England’s Medical Education Reform Programme
- Lead service improvement projects with the foundation and core medical trainees to enhance patient care under the supervision of the Medical Director of the Trust and the Director of Safety.
- Work with the Foundation Programme Directors and the Medical Tutors to deliver Foundation or Core Medical teaching programmes.
- Undertake bedside evening teaching sessions for trainees wishing to take PACES.
- Help with organisation of the PACES examination held in Gloucestershire
- Work with our simulation team to develop and deliver training.
- Act as a mentor to nurses who are training in our advanced nurse practitioner programme, particularly helping with competences in clinical examination.
- Mentor trainee physician associates undertaking training in the Trust, rotating from University of Worcester or University of the West of England
- Design and deliver an educational programme for qualified Physician Associates in the Trust.
- Develop web-based training or signposts to web training for the postgraduate centre website.
- Undertake research projects in postgraduate medical education under the direction of the Tutor in Postgraduate Medical Education Research
