In 2020 Health Education England published The Future Doctor report which set out a vision for the reform of medical education and highlighted the need for a greater proportion of doctors, and all other healthcare professionals, to develop generalist skills.
Subsequently the Covid-19 pandemic highlighted how important generalist skills are, and how multi-professional learning and adapting to local and patient needs is essential for providing high quality care.
The NHSE Enhance or Enhancing Generalist Skills Programme, is a professional development offer for all health professionals that aspires to deliver this vision.
The Enhance programme recognises the need for healthcare professionals to develop a range of generalist skills in order to better meet patient need and improve.
