We are really pleased to offer this excellent opportunity to join our team in the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care as

a Research Support Officer. This is a great opportunity to gain experience within the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care’s world-leading established research divisions.

The postholder will provide high quality and comprehensive administrative, budgetary and research project support to the head of research division as well as ensuring the successful delivery of key research initiatives across the Faculty.

As part of the research office, you will be required to work closely with the senior research officer and the research and impact manager, as well as act as a central point of contact for academic researchers within the divisions you support.

This post will support the Division of Applied Technologies in Clinical Care led by Professor Louise Rose and Division of Methodologies led by Professor Glenn Robert.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.

Key responsibilities
- Monitor divisional financial budgets and a research grant budget as requested by the award holder in the division, using systems including Worktribe and Business World.
- Act as a central point of contact for academic researchers in the divisions, helping to resolve queries, disseminating key information, supporting the set up of formal research project meetings and providing support with HR activities such as recruitment, contract renewals and new starter inductions.
- Maintain and update the research division webpages using the Content Management System and working closely with the Communications team.
- Provide high quality, effective PA support to the head of research division as required. This includes electronic diary management, organising meetings (room booking, refreshments, travel, conference registration), producing meeting minutes/notes, ordering supplies, processing expense claims, annual leave requests and maintaining absence records.
- Coordinate the monthly division meeting agenda and papers. Support the division’s seminar meetings.
- Work flexibly and in collaboration with other staff, including the teams within the Divisions and across the Faculty. This will include cover and collaboration during holidays and other absences.
- Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required by the head of research division or senior research officer.
- The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post._

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1. Good standard of general education (A-Levels or undergraduate degree) or significant relevant vocational experience.

2. Excellent IT skills (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, databases, and internet browsers).

3. High standard of numeracy, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

4. Excellent organisational skills, able to balance competing work demands (workload) and manage own time in order to meet imminent and distant deadlines.

5. Experience of providing diary management to multiple users. Methodical but flexible approach to work with excellent attention to detail.

6. Experience of working in an administrative or coordination role, ideally in a UK Higher Education, NHS, or research-related environment.

7. Experience of HR procedures i.e. recruitment, appraisal, probation etc.

8. Experience of committee administration, including minute-taking.

9. Experience of co-organising small projects, functions, and events.

10. Experience of producing reports.

11. Demonstrates a commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity for staff and students

Desirable criteria

12. Knowledge of administrative platforms used by research staff and students (e.g. PURE, ethics databases, Endnote, Worktribe).

13. Knowledge of financial and accounting processes.

14. Understanding of Academic Research Strategy.

15. The ability to be resourceful and identify solutions to problems independently.
